C/60 Trim Question
I spotted a single axle C/60 tractor today. The business is closed today and fenced,so I couldn't get a closer look to cure my curiousity. .What has me wondering is,did these trucks come with the same trim level options or just standard and custom like trucks prior to these? This truck,I believe is a '70 or newer because it has the raised pod roof panel. Could be a '69 if all the clearance lamp lenses were changed. It has the 67/68 type Custom door badges and fender side markers. I know even the bigger 67/68s didn't have these round clearance lamps. The truck is definitely an upgrade cab with stainless window trim and that's a I could see. I'm definitely going back. This place is near me,has a junk yard, sells a few vehicles used, and is primarily a towing business. I want to see what their plans are.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
I know this is something most of you guys won't know. I hope someone who knows their GM trucks will see this.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
From the dozen or so C40-60's I have parted out, the 67's had 3 tear drop bolt on cab light without the raised roof, 68 had 5 of the same, the 71-72's had the fireman hat lenses with the raised roof. I have seen one with factory AC and AM-FM
As far as I know they did come with the "custom appearance group" option.. which was bright grill work and stainless window moulding and chrome wing vents, First picture is a 72 C60 I parted with the custom appearance group option, 366cu, tach/vac Second is a 67 C50 350 cu,plain jane and third is a 68 C50, 366 cu, plain jane.. I think they could be ordered with many of the same options as the c10-30's an additionally could have air ride seats, Another observation is in 71-72's with the 366 big block they had a fresh air vent on the drivers side of the hood and with the 427 big block had them on both sides with a "427" emblem. |

Re: C/60 Trim Question
Good info. I could see the driver side and it had the chrome vent w/o the 427 emblem. It has Gasoline labeled at the filler and I wondered if it might have the 366. This place is closed n Mondays. I can't wait till Tuesday to check this out.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
One thing to keep in mind if you end up purchasing, the 366's have no resale value,(at least out here) I tried to sell the rebuilt 366 out of my 72 for months, ended up robbing it of the steel crank shaft and scrapped the rest.. 427's on the other hand are desirable

Re: C/60 Trim Question
From what i have seen, The local yard has a 69 c/50 with cab light pods. The lens are a round /flat top style. think the are original since they faded to all white. I beleive this type was for low clearance body styles like box/ car carrier.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
'69 was the first year for the all plastic round clearance lamps mounted on raised pods. The first lenses were the flat topped and they changed to the domed lens by the '70. My guess is the change was made to give the lights more visibility.
I wish this thing did have a 427. I'd rather it had a Detroit diesel. If I bought it I would restore it for old truck shows. I'd get a fifth wheel camper and low-boy to put it to work.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
After a second look at my other pictures, Yes first pic is a 72 C60 and it has the 67-68 "custom" door badges. Took a look thorugh a few more pictures I have and here is a C40 (not sure on the year) that looks to have the appearance group but no door badges. all the fender emblems I have ever seen are just the different years of C40, C50, C60, never a "Custom/60" etc.
I have also noticed there are different hood bowties some are flat and some are raised at the top.. (havent figured out if its a year thing or model difference) The 366 cranks are steel and the same as a 396 and 427 car cranks |

Re: C/60 Trim Question
Tim, the only oddball big truck emblem i have is a C/50- 8-366.
Otherwise they have all been bowtie over 40,50,60 (like the 67-68) or C-40, C-50, or C-60. I have noticed the 67-68 custom upper door emblem on bigger trucks, but didn't pay attention to what years they were on. I know those emblems came in black or chrome if that means anything... Even on my GMC emblems, after 3500 series they are just V-six, V-eight, or diesel.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
There use to be a pair of C/60s around here that had panoramic rear windows, both were 5th wheel trucks owned by a company that moved mobil homes.
If I had the room this 10 wheeler would be in my driveway! http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/2574442880.html

Thanks for answering these questions. This one has the Panoramic window option. It's a '69 366/5+2/air brakes. I couldn't read all the SPID. I wish it was spring time cuz I would buy it. I have to store my nuts for the winter now. This trucks is in great mechanical condition with good Michelin rubber. That baby big block purred like a kitten. Just as quiet as it could be. Here are some pictures I took:

Re: C/60 Trim Question
I'd just like to go over this truck, paint it up,and put the fancy pickup interior in it to have something to bobtail into antique truck shows with. I have friends with old big trucks and they've been bugging me for years to get one. It just seems fitting to get one like this. A lowboy would be nice. Or,better yet,a Landoll tilt bed would be awesome. Maybe find a steal on a 5th wheel travel trailer. Yeah,I know, I'm just dreamin'. That's what gets me by sometimes. Here's a few other shots:

Re: C/60 Trim Question
No. Although they share many body panels, they use a different floor (due to different frames) and different cowl (due to the different front clip). The fenders bolt up different. The front clip is shorter so the engine sits back into the cowl deeper.

I sure would like to drive this stout little thing around. That big block sounded tight! Just imaging 9 shifts leaving the cruise-in.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
$1,500 OBO. It's driving me nuts. If you are interested I can go and buy it with you as mine because they know me. I'm thinking $1,000,maybe as much as $1,200. They just got it in and I think a quick sale would be motivating to them.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
My book said that Custom Appearance (Z61) and Custom Comfort (Z62) were available. With Z62, a cloth seat was standard, unless it had a 10-speed.
I'd love to have a pair of those hood vents. Aren't those 427's, a tall-block engine, though?

Re: C/60 Trim Question
The 366 is a tall deck truck motor, too. The 427s had the vent in both sides and a 427 badge added. This one has those Custom packages. The front trim is bright work under the white paint. Apparently the door panels still came in metal with the upgrade and the horn button wasn't chrome. It does have the fancy dash knobs. The Custom badge on the glovebox door is removed on this one.
I always wanted to get one of these and put ln a fancy pickup interior. I have olive door panels, seat belts, and visors. The rest is available. I have a friend who has a N.O.S. olive steering wheel. That thing baffled us because it was obviously N.O.S.,67/68 style, and olive wasn't an interior color in those years. I guessed that maybe it was a medium duty wheel from 69-72,since the wheels are the same style. My hunch was confirmed when we held a 67/68 pickup wheel to it and it fit just inside his. These trucks have an identical wheel but just a tad bigger.

Re: C/60 Trim Question
They just got it in. They won't be tagging it. It does have rust, but nothing to scare me off. I can get better pictures and get more info for you. Send me a PM and we can swap phone numbers. I can't buy it and would like to at least see someone else get it that would appreciate it like I would.
