If they'll part it out, buy the bed, if not walk away.

Ok thanks for all the input. It might be a project for someone with space, time and money galore but it's a bit more than I feel like doing. WLH

Re: Possible new 60-66 member; 65 C10 w/83K

This was a clean low mileage truck that was left out in the weather. The rust is not that uncommon in these areas.Water seems to do a lot of damage when vehicle just sits and not driven to blow the water off( air-dry).Yes, they still rust in California in these conditions. The worst thing other than dealing with rust repairs is the unncessary ugly repaint in a different color. This truck was special ordered to be a "heavy duty 1/2 ton". Evidence is 292, 4 speed, factory below eye line mirrors, split rims (this is the clip type wheel that accepts those hubcaps with 7 5/8 inner ring) and should have the heavy duty 2000Lb rear coils and overload springs. This would be a great vehicle for someone who would use it for what it was designed to be : A heavy duty 1/2 ton pickup truck or a camper.

Re: Possible new 60-66 member; 65 C10 w/83K

Actually that was the plan, keep it for travel. Rust scares me though, and it wasn't running yet so I couldn't tell if it needed major mechanicals. I still might check back and if they still have it in a couple weeks then I'll low-ball IF it runs without loud knocks, low oil pressure, missing gears etc.

Ill bet that 292 fires right up...maybe some head issues but thats it. Either way, way off base on the price..absolutely love the camper.

That would be a 1500 truck here at the most. It is a low option truck with easy to get after market air and really only the camper would be worth restoring.

I have the sales brochure for Pullman campers if you want on though one of the pictures show the floor cut out. By the look of the rust on one side it looks like he has the same idea the guy who had my truck had, which was to water it daily. Could be a nice driver once you get through the reason it was sitting. Lots of work though

Re: Possible new 60-66 member; 65 C10 w/83K

Yeah the old bird told me the gas cap was original so I snapped a pic.

The sales brochure would be interesting, more so if I decide to buy this project. It's really just a shell sitting on the top of the sides plus a full rear with door.(no tailgate as I mentioned). Of course there are no appliances or anything other than some little supports in the front that may have once supported a bed of some kind.
It's really not as nice as the pictures show. I had a 1949 Westcraft 24' trailer that was completely restored and it had all birch interior that looked something like this one in the pics. However this Pullman shell is not wood but is fake wood, (can't think of the name, I just finished 10 hr day - no lunch).

Surfdaddy I was just in Newhall at AV equipment rental getting a 4800 lb Vermeer chipper. Pulled it easy even up a steep dirt road.

They guys at AV know me when I come in to get a car trailer. They ask what did someone give me now. If you decide to get the truck let me know. I may have some other sales stuff that can go with it. I got a bunch of stuff with my truck from the Orig owner who did a lot of research.

It's an additional support to hold the air cleaner in place. On these early tall air cleaners, the clamp around the carb neck generally wasn't enough to keep them from either falling off or rattling.

That's too bad, I was really hoping that you would have scored a real gem. If the price came down to around $1200 or so, it would be something to consider. Absolutely love the camper.

For any of the restoration guys, Post #20 is a great reference to the question of what the bed wood and slat color was from the factory. Black!! It would be safe to assume that the truck got that camper when it was new. That bed wood is primo.
