Re: what kind of crap rearend work is this?

I completely agree with low life 99 it looks to me as if someone for some reason decided to weld on the track bar I would just order a new one from cpp. and as far as being the wrong rear end it appears to me to be correct for the truck

Re: what kind of crap rearend work is this?

Looks like some of my early middle of the night manure truck repair welds from 12 years ago.

Outside of the ugly welds, the bracket on the rear end has the bolt/bushing aimed in the wrong direction. They should have come out with a bracket and had the bolt parallel to the ground so that that bushing would actually work when the suspension worked instead of bind like it does now.

Unless you just happen to have the correct rear end sitting around in good shape I'd clean things up, make sure that the welds on the spring pads were good and fit a new panhard rod that actually would work right.

The truck wasn't converted to 5 lug was it? That could be the reason for the rear end swap.

That was the first thing I noticed, how is it supposed to articulate when it is facing the wrong direction?

yea thats when i'm sure they did it i think its a gmc rear with leaf springs originally because of the welds that are still on the axle tubes where something has been cut off and that rear wouldn't have the mount for the panhard bar right? so they did this

It wouldn't have to be from a GMC. All Chevys from 73 on had leaf springs too.

Exactly right. How many years has it lasted like that w/o issue?

edit: just now saw the pics above, DAMN! look at the size of that errr bead! props for it holding together this long
- as long as they got the metal to mesh well, it's actually pretty strong

SWEEEEEEEEEEET welds on that rear end. Either that or you have some big seagulls. The positioning of the panhard rod and its bushing alignment is one for the special mods by PO book.

Re: what kind of crap rearend work is this?

take a look now all fixed up, got to finish painting it. Got to get the truck aligned (installed new ball joints, tie rods etc..) then hopefully drive it some before winter gets here. Replaced brake lines too with pre-made ones for now better than what i had and 4in drop springs, and super trac bar from ECE maybe some shock relocateing in the future. Safer now.
