What do you for nuts that hold on Sunvisors

I was taking my visors off and 3 of the 4 nuts came loose inside windshield frame. What can I do and/or what have you guys done? Thanks for any help, Randy

you will have to drill the old screw heads out,then put threaded inserts back in..here is the tool to put them in with..

northern sells the inserts also. These work well where a nut cannot be put in place. roof racks..ect..Handy to have one of these..

i think the op said the nuts on the inside are also spinning now. Drilling in inserts won't stop the nuts from spinning.

I have the same problem and when I asked about it I was told that I would need to cut into the top and replace the nuts. Hopefully someone will tell us differently here.

This happened to the bolts for the top on mine. I'm not 100% sure you can access the visor nuts the way i fixed mine but here's what i did.

First I cut or ground the head of the bolt off. Then I fished the old nut out through the hole where the door seal goes with a combination of air pressure and a wire. To install a new nut i drilled two 3/16'ish holes on either side of the bolt hole then tack welded some mechanic wire to a nut and pushed it in through the door seal hole. Once you get it to the hole use a long bolt to thread in the nut and hold it out tight and weld rosette's using the 3/16 holes you drilled.

Thanks for the info guys, the nuts must of fallen off, they are not on there anymore, I mean only one is, the other 3 are gone

70 BlazerX2 hit it correct. I use the threaded nut inserts on a daily basis and they work wonders. Same principle as a blind rivet only threaded. Just make sure you use inserts with the grooved outside wall if using a drill bit to make your hole. The smooth wall inserts are only for punched holes. Make sure you use the correct size bit ( no fudging cause it will slip) a 1/4x20 insert requires a 25/64" drill bit. 3/8" is close but too small and if you round it out chances are it will slip. Hope this helps.

I think what 70 was saying was to drill or cut the screws out so they will fall on thru. If the nuts are spinning they are no longer attached to the windshield frame. The inserts he is talking about will act as the new nuts. They are compressed using the tool he linked to similar to a pop rivet gun. FOr occasional use this gun would be fine but if using it all the time I would go with either a high leverage long arm gun, hydraulic or air operated gun.

Ahh, i see....good to know for future reference. I guess the best thing to do when faced with a rusted screw is to drill it out and rethread the hole. Breaking off the nuts is BAD!!
