Re: I would like your opinion

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. A lot of great feedback

I made a few more that I think look well too. I'm going to get a pic of the entire dash and play with moving the gauges to the instrument cluster and see how that looks... I have an extra cluster that I can use if I do decide to put the gauges into it.

Layout #4

Layout #5

I'm leaning towards #4 out of these two. I still think it looks too busy though.

I did measure this out and it will all fit as shown

Cool work though... I really like this approach and may steal the idea.

What AC system are you using that uses that controller?

I have a Vintage Air Kit Justin from Scotts Hot Rods sold me last year. Great guy to deal with and good pricing I hope to have it completely installed and running by spring

Here is a closeup of the control panel. It's illuminated with two small LED lights. Looks pretty cool lit up.

Thanks for the comments

Are your vents installed yet, ...? Can you install one on the far left of the dash, one in the middle say to the right side, controller in the middle to the left, din in the middle with gauges just below the din canted a little toward the driver. most all choises look killer.

Nothing is installed yet. I actual planned to install a forth vent on the far left side of the dash. I wanted (4) vents total. I had to put my wide angle lens on the camera to get the entire dash in the picture and did so today

Thanks for the comments

Re: I would like your opinion

Okay, more photoshop learning time for me today

I used my wide angle lens on the camera today to get the entire dash in the picture. Makes it easier to see the whole layout now

So, I think that I figure out what I'm going to do... I had already planned to install a forth vent on the far left side of the dash, but it doesn't have the room the Chevy's have....

What I will do is remove the choke knob (don't need it...), move the wiper and light switch over to the right one spot which will free up just enough room to squeeze a horizontal vent. I photoshopped this now

What I'm going to do is go with layout #1 and then eventually move the gauges to the instrument cluster. I think that I figured out how to make this work and will use one of three cluster bezels that I have. So, it will then look like layout #6 when it's all complete

I went ahead and regenerated the other layouts for reference to anyone else that may want to change up their dash that doesn't mind cutting it up.

Layout #1

Layout #2

Layout #3

Layout #4

Layout #5

Layout #6 (My vote )

Re: I would like your opinion

In a head on crash, that big knob on the globe box jumps out as something that might go through a passenger's eye.

That's why interiors got rid of stuff sticking out.

No doubt I'll be ridiculed for suggesting it, but, maybe convert to a button?

Lol, a lockable button is on the "to-do-list"

I've already smacked my hand on it when I was welding up the dash..

Re: I would like your opinion

I like layout number 6 a lot, but layout number 1 really ties the accessory gauge panel in with the tach being mounted on top of the dash and the vintage style steering wheel. If you decide to go with #6, I’d suggest reviewing the many dash panel threads on the site before finalizing the layout. When I first built my truck I also arranged the gauges straight across. Although the instruments fit the space well, the steering wheel interfered with easily reading some of the faces. This led me to design several more panels before I finally arrived at one that made me happy.

#2 plus get rid of the tach or put it by your speedo.

Re: I would like your opinion

my thinking is always less is more, so i agree with the guys who like the idea of gauges in the instrument panel....at first i liked the idea of layout #1, except centering the gauge pod under the dash....i also like #6 but would try a different gauge layout in the instrument panel....and i must admit that the one sideways mounted air vent bugs me, lol

Re: I would like your opinion

Great photo shop skills but to really clean up the dash panel, I think I would try the following:

1. Lose the radio - anything the radio can do, you can do with an I phone & Pandora. Also most local stations have a web link so you listen via computer. Also helps get rid of the antenna. There are also articles on here & @ jalopyjournal on how to run the Iphone thru an amp cheaper than thru a radio.
2. change to an AC vent with out the chrome bezel. This will help it blend into the dash.
3. Personally, I prefer the gauges in front of the driver.

These are just my observations & personal preferences, It's truly your canvas to create your dream.

Re: I would like your opinion

OK, now that your head is spinning with everyones ideas, including mine, here is one more option:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=468107

do what TR65 did and mount the AC vents in a channel added on the bottom of the dash! This is what I plan to do also.
