Yup, need to remove wheel studs to get the two pieces to separate.
However, you can but rotors that have the hub 'carrier' attached already if you prefer. I do think it costs more to do it that way, and my local parts source did not have those on-hand, but could order them. I ended up replacing rotors and re-installing my hub carrier.
