Re: I got new (to me!) 65
I really like the GMC hood. With it's large opening in the middle it goes well with the open C60/80 Grill!
Looks like you found some more paint...

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
I had to laugh that the wife got the new hood, makes me glad that my wife is not interested in old cars and trucks. I had a nice gmc hood and gave it away. I thought it wouldn't be that hard to find a nice chevy hood in florida...... I was very wrong, still no hood!!!

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
well, I decided to try a new look.
I had a 60-61 hood laying around, and a nice 62 grille, so I am trying this combo out to see if I like it. the hood did not look good with the c 60 grille, the headlights were too far to the side and it didn't really flow with the pods. I like the pods of the hood , but I am not sure if I like the park light grilles. I am going to grab another set of 60 park light inserts, and cut the center out of them, put some mesh behind them and hide the parklights behind that. we'll see how that looks.

The 63 C50 grille would share the pod look!

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
I originally thout of cutting down the c50 grille to fit in a c10, I did a crude photo chop in the second pic.
the thing I am worried about is it might restrict most of the air flow to the radiator, the only part of the 60-61 hood that flows to the rad is under the hood latch. also I held it up to the front end and the top bar jus seemed too wide.. I still might look into cutting it , and taking some of the cut out of the top bar and leaving the air holes bigger.... I also thought that a 63 c50 front end might look good on my 63 k20! (3rd pic) decisions...decisions

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
little update on this one...
after new plugs, points, cap, condenser, rotor, getting the heater fixed, changing the choke cable, (old one was kinked, and I think I drove half the summer with the choke partially closed!), the timing chain slipped a couple teeth... the old 283 is a little worn out, the # 2 & 7 cylinders foul the plugs out after about a week or so, so it really isn't worth it to fix the timing chain/gear on this engine. I looked around the yard, and no luck finding an easy replacement engine, all the 350's we have are the newer throttle body type, I have a 66 with a 283, we tried to start that, and it sounds like the timing chain is slipped/broken in that as well, I have a nice 396, but to do that I would have to convert to an automatic, and all the autos I have are 4X4 so I will be on the lookout for a nice sbc or an auto (2wd) this winter , and get 'er back on the road in the spring. while it is parked I am going to pull the fenders and re do the rust patches, they are trying to go again. I also decided I didn't like the 60-61 hood 62 grille combo on this truck, so I will fix up one of the 62-66 chev hoods I have , and put the big truck grille back in it.

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
that is a grille off a big truck...c60-c80, in order to make it work you need to save the grille /headlight supports off your c10 grille.
the hood is a 62-66 gmc

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
no pics just yet.. but got some new stuff for the 65: an oe chrome front and rear bumper, and a real nice chrome gmc grille. plan is to run the gmc grille w/out the letters, and fill the gap with the stock bumper guards and liscense plate.
since there is chrome on 'er now , the stock wheels and caps would not do, so I scored as set of 6 lug slots for $100 on cl! with good tires even! we brought in a 327 that is supposed to run, and it has a car (I think a cast borg/worner) 4 speed with it. I am thinking about putting that in.... I discovered that one of my parts trucks has a posi?!? (usually I check these things right away), so I am going to put that in it as well.... I am looking into static drop stuff, since the rear wil be out , that would be a good time for blocks/springs, we'll see what happens.

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
thye 327 turned out to be a 67 283... however another "283" we had laying around turned out to be a 69 327
I talked to the owner of the 67 283, and he said he quit driving it because it was tired... so back to square 1 on engines... I have been contemplating using the large journal crank and rods from the 283 with the 327, and building a 302.... I will have to talk to my engine builder and see what my best option is.. looks like my lowering $$ will have to go towards an engine

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
update time!
new stuff: chrome oe bumpers thanks to papa kent who picked them up at a swapmeet for me. chrome repro guards that were cheap off ebay, the metal on these is thin, so if you get a set handle with care!! chrome gmc grille that I got in a trade w/ superflystieny. I decided to try some 61 park light housings, I painted the outside ring hood color, the background black and the center "chrome" -walmart chrome paint is still silver... from 10 feet it looks like old aluminum.... "new" old small block that I had sitting around... got the chrome and the edelbrock performer, so its got to be fast right? .... nope pretty sure it has a flat cam, so the hunt is on for another used small block.... it runs good enough now to get me around and I rarely get over 45 in town so at least I can drive it. fan shroud is off one of my parts trucks, only one I have seen around here so far. got a set of slots and tires off craigs list for $110, think they came from a jeep, I needed something to go with the chrome bumpers and grille.

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
got this brand new dual exhaust system off a truck that I took on trade, you should have seen that truck,so rusty there was literally nothing left to salvage.
found a city chevrolet great falls emblem to fill the holes on the cowl panel. pic of the dash: restored the heater control, and got a set of black radio knobs from tony at 456 chevy trucks..radio still works, but AM only I am up to date daily on the ag report, and rock out to johnny paycheck and hank williams senior-I don't do talk radio which is the only other option

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
painted the passenger side door with my last can of jade green, walmart has discontinued that color as well, so luckily I don't have any more sheetmetal changes planned for the future. notice the paint fading at different rates bed 1.5 years ago, hood 1 year, fenders 2 months, door last week...
trying out a chrome 73-87 shift lever, but the angle is not working out. It hits the leg in the carseat in 4th and has a wierd angle away from your arm. I will probably go back to the lever that I got with the truck, it has been bent so that it is out of the way of a 3rd passenger, it is just kind of hard on your arm to shift. I would like to try the original 60-66 style, but it is not in a good place for a kid with a lap belt. last 2 shots show what a difference a little paint makes.. gmc did not use the white stripe around thier grille like chevy, and some gmc plants accented the back of the grille in black, while some left it body color. the black really makes the grille pop out. still have to finish up the part on the passenger side.

Re: I got new (to me!) 65
I am guessing that rpo 0503AA is for the blue green.
the paint break on the doors is different, the pass is off a 66... as far as I can tell the lh door is all og paintpass is og except for where I covered the blue on the skin.
