NOS Inner Grilles 3985056

I recently came across these 2 NOS inner grilles 3985056 from a gentleman that had a connection to GM parts distribution center. Apparently, whenever a older part in the inventory system is being discontinued, he's given the opportunity to buy that part in bulk. So, the part arrives from the vendor in a very large box that contains 30 grilles inside, seperated only by cardboard. Rather than repackage all 30 grilles in retail boxes, the entire lot would be sold to an individual(s).

I bought his last 2 grilles from that lot, without retail boxes. I thought someone could use them for their project. Also, there are raised sections on the grilles, of which I tried to get a close up of. Lastly, I gaurantee that these grilles have never been installed and are NOS.

Price is 125.00 shipped each or 200.00 shipped for both, CONUS.

71-72 NOS inner grilles have a part number molded into the plastic. I have compared these 2 69-70 inner grilles with the ones I have in the GM retail boxes and none of them have part numbers cast into the plastic. The 70 grille is the same as the 69, with only difference being the top surface of the 12 raised sections are painted silver and the 69 has the entire section of the raised area painted silver with black boarders.

Re: NOS Inner Grilles 3985056

If this was painted correct for a 70 I would take one. Do you know if Gm ever painted than in the raised areas or just made them for 69-70? I thought the 69 is smooth?

Yes, these grilles are NOS. Never installed. The 69-70 are identical, except where the paint is applied. Your absolutely right, 70 only had the edges of the 12 raised areas painted silver. Where as the 69 had the entire raised area of grille painted silver.

The grilles are painted the 69 version. You could paint one or both of these grilles to match the 70 style without any difficulty. Painted used is a semi/satin gloss black and argent silver.

The oem '69 grilles do not have the raised areas.

All NOS 69-70 grilles I have ever seen,... are actually '70 grilles, painted in '69 colors.
I've never seen a recent (1990 or newer) NOS '70 grille painted the correct '70 colors.

I agree.

In addition, I believe all the OEM 1969 grilles as installed on the trucks at the factory had the flat horizontal portions below the eggcrate sections that contact the center outer grille bar and bottom grille bar painted silver. I've seen several original trucks in the last couple years that seem to verify this. All OEM/NOS grilles I've seen since the 1970 revision have been the 1970 style.

That said, I don't doubt that these are NOS as produced by GM after 1970 and are a great deal.

Keith, I agree. What I was referring to was only the service part version.

Re: NOS Inner Grilles 3985056

Dave, the grille was received here at work last week while I was on vacation. It looks good, no damage that I can see. Sorry for the late post, but I just got back to work today.

Thanks,
Mark
