Re: wooden bed floor kits?

Fostner drill bit, I think 1 1/2". They can be bought at any hardware store.

Just remember to drill the 3/8" hole offset, or the washer/bolt will not work correctly.

Re: wooden bed floor kits?

What's the purpose of the offset washer? Not sure if the fosner bit will work as I already have my bolt holes drilled. I may have to use a wood chisel, any other ideas?

The nice thing about oak is a neutral colour and can be stained to anything.

I really like quarter sawn white oak, it has Character, harder than red oak, and it finishes up nice. Here is a pic of a board member I did a white oak set for

These are just my opinions, Im sure some will agree and even more will disagree.

White oak is beautiful and is definitely the wood I'll be using if I go that route. I may just use a composite decking material...I dunno. Nice to see a fellow woodworker here The companies that sell the kits make a killing off of the bedwood, but not everybody has...or has access to the tools that make it possible. Nice work on that bed, too!

Offset washer is to give you a little play to align all the holesin the crosssills.
Easy fix, take a scrap peice of wood and drill the hole usin the fostener bit, then clamp the scap wood onto the bedwwod where you need to drill the hole. Remember to only drill the 1/4 "

I try to do my research before posting up a new thread.

Glad you responded - have you any pix of woods you've used with red bedsides handy? I'm thinking oak would look okay but would consider other finishes. Easier now than afterward, eh?

Very impressive bed, by the way!

I did my own Zoomin .. These pics are during the SPAR stages .. final pic in my GMC build. (you may have seen it already)

just sayin, .. it's not difficult. I have about $165 in the wood, and $40 in the varnish. Then of course my time. It really turned out nice. Factory GM / OEM specs
