Re: new motor
Well this is a broad question. What are your real intentions for the truck. a DD, a toy a dd with some towing ability? For a DD I would probably go with a mild built 350. for efficiency and dependability.dd with nice towing ability, a mild cammed 350 or even 383 for the torque added for making towing easier. toy, stroked cammed up 383 because they have plenty torque for smokin the tires.

Re: new motor
Dubok
Torque is king in any truck so if you already have all the parts a 350 would make good sense. That said if your crank needs grinding go 383 and never look back. You can get a new crank for pennies more than grinding your original crank and You can feel the difference very easily in the seat of your pants. I have a 90 GMC K1500 and put a 400 smallblock in it out of a station wagon while my engine was at the machine shop being rebuilt. The old 98,000 mile 400 was a much better motor than my brand new 350. If you are running the factory TBI you can't put much of a cam in your 350 at all so cubic inches are your best most reliable friend. Lynn |
