Re: 68 k20 saved from the yard

Just have supporting documentation (bill of sale or title for nice cab) and then swap the original vin plate on to the new cab with correct rivets. As long as you have full documentation on both, what you are doing would be defendable and the most practical way to save/restore a rare truck. You retain the original identity of the truck this way and just basically fixed the rust by installing a large patch panel (ie, the whole cab). Certainly better than the alternative of not saving the truck. I've never done this but its done frequently and I would not hesitate if I had a nonsalvagable cab. As a buyer, I would want the cab vin plate, spid, title frame to match and have a correct cab on there (ie, not a small back window 67, or 72 with different mirror mount, or an AC cab when the SPID does not list AC). I wouldn't care if you fixed the rust, as long as everything was year correct and well done, but thats just me.

Re: 68 k20 saved from the yard

well got some updates for yall purchased a 400 from one of my friends it had low compression in two cylinders so i leak down tested them to lucky just having some valve issues.
took the heads off lapped all the valves and put a 350 crate motor cam/lifters/rockers/pushrods i had in my spare parts bin
topped it off with my old trucks dominator intake and my dads predator carburator(whens the last time u seen one of them?) and fired her up on the engine stand.

Re: 68 k20 saved from the yard

There's nothing wrong with a mud truck! I don't go mudding at all but I respect the hobby. There's plenty of people with c10s that don't use their trucks for mudding either, but destroy the trucks in other ways. Good luck, and great progress so far.

Re: 68 k20 saved from the yard

I enjoy looking at lifted mudders way more than chopped and dropped trucks. Nice save. Looks good.

Re: 68 k20 saved from the yard

thank you i tried to post picks of the fuel cell and stuff but it wouldnt let me.
i made bracket and used my old snap on belts to mount it i thought it would be cool to make shift all this crap into a pretty decent mud truck

Re: 68 k20 saved from the yard

I think the metal crate as a drivers seat is gonna be rough on the ass.............water and mud will be easy to drain through it but it wont be very comfortable. lol
