Stock wheel sizes?
What are the stock wheel sizes on a '59? Near as I can tell, it's 15x6.5 or so with 4" back spacing. I don't trust my "near as I can tell" measures, though, when I'm about to spend some money on wheels to clear my new steering box.

Re: Stock wheel sizes?
OK - I was close. These wheels are 6" wide with a 9/16 offset, which translates to 4 1/8" or so back space.
So. I needed about 1/2 to 5/8" worth of stacked washers for my current 235/75/15 tires to clear the steering box. Back space is the relationship between the inside of the rim & the hub mounting pad. So if the back space is the same, rim width shouldn't affect clearance at the box. Right? I'm thinking a 3" back space 15x8 rim should work. I might at some point go to 30x9.5x15 tires when the 235's wear out... |
