Re: I think my truck might be a numbers matching

This is right out of the 60-66 Chevy truck assembly manual so I tend to believe it more than a random engine site.

Yes, ask the question on the board of anyone who has the original painted grey 283 motor and it will be coded WE or WA. If it is orange it has been probably rebuilt, if it is grey it is original.

This was taken out of a one owner low mile truck, original grey color and is a 65 motor.

remember that this is truck only, not cars with multiple hp ratings. Your not going to have a 230hp p/p 283 in a truck stock.

No because if your truck was assembled in the middle or near the end of the 65 run, the date should probably match. Do you know what tranny you have yet?

On that chart scroll to the right and you will see full size meaning impala , belair etc, if it was out of a truck it would have C10, 20 etc there. Look at all the WA to WZ coded blocks and you will see that they were all for trucks.

I see the word full size but I don't see the definition of it. I'm not saying I don't agree with you. I will look for some more numbers and see if I can find a vin stamped on the block

Re: I think my truck might be a numbers matching

you have been given some pretty good info. there are only a couple of ways that it can go. did your truck orig have a p/glide or a m/trans. the truck is 50 years old so it could have gone thru some eng changes over the years

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents here. LT1 Burb has it right. Not sure where you found that suffix at. But I will back LT1 Burb 100%. The proof is in the GM books.

the motor may well be a 65, just that it may be out of a car and someone put it in there, just like the 350 trans. you haven't answered the question as to what was the orig transmission in the truck..

Re: I think my truck might be a numbers matching

there has been talk about this over the years, that on the assembly line they might of substituted a car eng instead of the truck eng (really the same in base form). ran out of the correct stamped eng maybe? ck the date code on the back of the block. it should be before the build date of the truck (if you know that) I would thank nobody would go through the trouble to find the correct date code unless it was totally restored. some deck the block and re-stamp the #'s on a correct date code also. ease up on the people giving info----------

I'm not being hard on them. Everyone is so quick to be so negative about it. Thanks for the advice. Where is this date code on the back of the block and how do I find out when my truck was built. Thanks
