Re: Bought a 95 exteded cab truck with issues

After doing some research, it appeared that a malfunctioning EGR system could cause some of this. So I started to check that and got stumped with the EGR solenoid. I made a different post about what i found since it is more of a specific question. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=590456 Also, as I was messing with the EGR stuff today, the engine seems to be starting a little easier. |

Re: Bought a 95 exteded cab truck with issues
Got it figured out!!!!
After messing with the EGR and solenoid and scratching my head and taking it for a test drive I decided to check the timing again since it was idling pretty well. Now, remember this is a '95, so there is not a connector on the passenger side firewall like the older ones. However there is a single wire connector on the drivers side firewall. So I pulled that to check the timing, and it was at 0, but the engine didn't change sounds as if the timing was retarded when I pulled this connector. Also, I realized the check engine light didn't come on. So I reconnected it, and checked the timing again.....still at 0. Hmmm.......I was thinking maybe it wasn't advancing the timing with it connected or something. So I break out my manual and read......and discover the timing wire for a 95 only is under the glove box! I disconnect that wire, the engine lugs and almost dies. I check the timing, its way retarded to the point that I can't even see the mark. I turn off the engine, give the dizzy a spin to about where I think it should be (based on the spark plug wire position), start it back up, and I'm dead nuts on at 0. Reconnect the wire, the timing advanced (to maybe 10). Take it for a test drive and it runs great! So the lesson learned here is read the fine print and don't make assumptions. All in all this little "mistake" cost me several hours of time and an EGR solenoid that I just leave installed. So pretty small cost for a reading lesson. Anyone want to buy a pickup
