Re: pro gears in truck rear
Can the housing be machined for the larger input shaft (car 12 bolt)?

Re: pro gears in truck rear
So I assume that the Timken #26882 and # 26823 are the correct bearing and race for installing the passenger gears into a truck housing?

Re: pro gears in truck rear
Yes they are. The only other things you'll need are a crush sleeve and pinion shims for a car 12 bolt. Chris.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
Thanks for confirming that. Let us know how she runs at the track.
For those reading this, I originally copied the wrong bearing number in my post. I have corrected it.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
How do the carrier splits work with this, for example if you have a 3 or 4 series truck 12 carrier, what car gears will fit on each one ?

Re: pro gears in truck rear
That i cant tell ya. I know I have 5.38 pro gears for a 12 bolt car 4 series, with a 4 series truck spool. IMHO, if you don't want pro gears or a ratio above 5.38, I'd stick with truck gears. Chris.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
don't know if his are any stronger, but i can say i've been 11.80's, pulled the front wheels, and flat shift it all the time, so far so good, and he is a great guy to deal with, super nice, and highly recomended.

Re: pro gears in truck rear
This is my first post in a forum, I can see this is an older thread, I'm just hoping I can get some helpful advice!
*This topic, swapping "car for truck gears, and vice versa" always seems to bring a lot of "grey area" when it comes to definitive knowledge as to what EXACTLY needs to be done in order to be done correctly. For years I've heard it could be done, however, there just never seems to be a clear answer.* *In this case, putting 12 bolt CAR gears, into a TRUCK housing. * What, EXACTLY, does this entail?* *What I understand so far, 1. You've cleared up the pinion bearing diameter issue, (thanks!)* 2. The carriers, Casting-wise, are basically the same, just machined differently to accept the different series gears e.g. 2, 3, 4, car*or 2, 3, 4 truck. Q: Did you have to machine your carrier?* *If so, which carrier did you start with and what machining was done?* *If not, which one are you using?* Let us in on it! It'd be GREAT to have a wider selection of gear ratio's available to choose from! *Thanks. ** Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: pro gears in truck rear
wow, old thread, but still glad it can be help to anyone who needs it. I just happened to be on here again, haven't frequented this site much anymore, I got into dirt track racing and that has put the drag racing and trucks on the back burner. anyway.....the bearing is br26823 and br26882 just as chris said earlier in the post, I actually found my receipt and those are the ones I used. as far as the carrier, I have a moser spool in my truck for a truck. so I can't confirm what carrier, but if you look on mosers site I believe the car and truck spool are the same part, so I would say the stock truck carrier will work. thanks, Devin
