Hey Folks,

Wanted to add this new video to explain how to clearly spot the difference between the 1 piece and 2 piece vent weathersrips for 81-87(91) Pickup (Blazer/Suburban)

Many people get confused about this because GM didn't make any clear distinction between the two and I still get plenty of calls about it.

I hope this clears this up so that you can purchase the correct version.

Hey Neighbor (Snohomish)

I don't believe there's really any performance difference when comparing the two styles. You must, however, buy the correct version for the assembly that you have. In other words, do not put the one piece weatherstrip into the assembly that originally held the two piece style. Many people on this forum have made that mistake and have been upset with the results...to then realize that they have to re-do the install.

i have spent most of the day installing the vent windows rubbers in my 77 k3500 that i just got back from the paint shop . i bought a set off ebay and when i got the rubbers i was very impressed with the quality of them after everything else i have put on as far as weatherstirping these are the best aftermarket rubbers i have bought . i just watched one of yalls viedos on installing them but i did it my way which was harder i took out all the rivets and replaced them . i am gona order the windsheild rubbers next from precision. i didnt even know that precision was on here glad i found them.

By reading this thread I found out I installed the wrong ones. I went to your website,put in the information for my truck and only one part # for vent window weatherstrip came up so I ordered and installed them.

I think it is great that you started this thread here. It also needs to be mentioned on your web site when people are ordering online.

Don't mean to sound too negative, but you'll be in for some hassle trying to get those things to fit. In my opinion they technically don't fit. It really sucks that whoever made them originally doesn't anymore. Not that I could find anyway. They'll go on there, and I'm sure they're very durable and will last 20 years just like the old ones. But that doesn't mean they fit well.

You'll have 1/8th inch gaps all over the place once you're finished, and the noise level is of course unacceptable. I ended up having to use that black RTV silicone pretty much everywhere, and I still have yet to iron out all the air noise and whistling. Not even the old cracked and half rotted originals made that much noise. And the new ones are a lot thicker. I'd say at least twice as thick, maybe more. That makes them even harder to work with.

I think Precision needs to go back to the drawing board, and try to make them more like GM did. They might be able to turn it around if they made a very detailed instruction manual that they included with all the seals, that no only addresses how to install them but how to make them seal up perfectly, addressing each and every point that air is going to leak in. But I think that would mean that you're just going to be siliconing them in, everywhere they are supposed to be up against the metal. Or maybe make some very detailed videos on installing both the 1 piece and the two piece designs, showing exactly how to get rid of ALL the gaps and all the air noise. Just thought I'd warn people what you're in for.

Here is the link to one of the vent assemblies. We currently don't have any excess assemblies to build from so you would need to send yours to us if you wanted a rebuilt set.

We have been selling these for about 12 years with no modifications. They were reverse engineered from originals as we try to produce everything from factory originals, it's really the only way to go.

If you have to use a sealant to fill gaps, you have serious issues going on! Usually it's a 1 piece design being installed in a 2 piece style assembly, or vice versa. This has been a real issue with these trucks and the reason we made a comparison video.

We're a manufacturer so we don't have any shops. You would need to ship them to our Wisconsin facility to have the work done. I know this doesn't work out for everyone since you'll be missing the glass for a few weeks, but the work is top notch.

Hopefully some people here will reply back with their experiences once they've bought them. We'll see if its just me. And don't get me wrong they're going to work out, its just that it required probably 3/4 of a tube (in total) of black weather proof RTV to make 'em right.

Although I still would like to ask you why they're so thick. I should have got my micrometer out but they looked to be 2, maybe 3 times as thick as the originals. Any reason for that? The originals didn't seem to have any durability issues...

I had the same problem, gaps that had to be sealed up with RTV. Come to find out I installed the one piece design where my frame is the two piece design. It was the only choice listed on their website at the time. I think they just recently updated the site to list both styles.

I am sure a lot of people have got the wrong ones in 12 years of selling them.

I think they will exchange for the correct one, just be sure to have your original invoice/receipt and spend 1/2 day pulling out the old and putting in the new.
