Re: Removing a front fender

I saw that bolt(s) in the wheel well but didn't think it was attached to the fender. I was under the impression the the fender could be removed without taking out the inner fender but I will work on that after work today. I'm hoping Ill be able to get it off without removing the bumper as that is ordeal from what I've heard.

Also, the hood has been removed.

Re: Removing a front fender

The hood hing and hood are holding the fender on. You need to put the fender back into place and start a bolt in the back hole to hold everything steady, so not to cause a safety trap and get some help to take the hood off. Once that is done you should be good or at least loosened up enough to find the rest. Jim

The bumper isn't hard to take off.

No worries it is still good advice. But yes the hood was removed. I'm going to go back to work on it today and take some more photos

Re: Removing a front fender

So I finally got it off and put on the new one. I didnt need to remove the bumper but I did need to loosen it to get the jammed up fender out from behind it.

The inner wheel well took a little damage so the holes did not line up correctly with the new fender, I had the same issues with the grill but after bending and prying and jamming I was able to get about 70% of the bolts back in. The fender is on really good and the wheel well doesnt move an inch so I am happy.

I will upload some more photos later on but I went back under the truck after my initial unbolting and must have found over a dozen screws I missed.

Namely the ones behind the battery housing and a couple on the lower grill.

Next project, some new headers or power steering.

OMGOSH!

So in order to replace a front fender one has to remove the hood, wipers, cowl, inner fender, and maybe the bumper?

Oh geeze! I have this job coming up in a couple of weeks!

The hood and cowl for sure since 2 of the main bolts holding the fender on are located under the cowl. The cowl took 5 minutes to remove, no biggie. The wipers just pull off (30 secs).

My truck was hit so the bumper bent around the fender which got stuck behind it so I had to loosen the bumper.

You do not need to touch the inner fender. I loosed too many bolts thinking they attached the fender to the inner but in reality I was unbolting the inner fender from the chassis which isn't necessary. In a perfect world You should by able to
Get the fender off without touching the bumper or inner fenders.

I would estimate about 20 bolts holding it on.

Getting it off is easy but finding all the bolts is a pain.

I had never done it before and didn't really know what I was doing and it took about 3-4 hours to get it off. I could do it in about an hour knowing what I know now
