In a way, I kinda miss that stage too. It's a reminder of simpler times. Both with the truck and with life. The color, with all the pearls in it, was a beautiful color and was really awesome at changing colors under street lights at night. At the same time, rock chips were also a royal pain since I couldn't really touch them up.

I still have the wrecked tailgate and some taillight covers that were painted in that color. I've also still got the blue tinted taillights.

Re: The History of 1badgmc

Seeing the fog/driving lights behind that bumper grille reminds me that I haven't found a spot that I consider "politically correct" in the placement. I'm kinda anal about adding stuff that doesn't look blended in considering the overall effect.

Since I have a smooth front bumper, I really shot myself in the foot for that esthetic treatment, but a diesel bumper wouldn't have done it, either, although it would have been the perfect place to consider the placement of those auxillary lamps. Guess I'll just have to do without.

I wonder if anyone has ever seen any yellow bulbs for headlights? I remember seeing an M-B when I was in college that had a pair for regular driving.....musta come from an area where fog was more common than sunlight.....maybe San Francisco???

That was a really cool set of lights I had on it there. It was a combination fog/driving light set. The fogs were projector beams and were yellow. The driving lights were just clear and I had put some 100w bulbs in them.

I have this bumper that I plan to put on my Suburban.

The fog lights that are in it now are really too small. I need to find me some larger lights to fill the holes up more.

I know it's been nearly a decade since doing the Caddy clip, but I would still like to put some auxiliary lights on the blue truck again. Using the tow hook holes in the airdam would pretty much be the best spot, but figuring out how to mount them would be the fun part.

You can find yellow 9006 bulbs. Go to eBay and type in "9006 yellow bulbs" and you'll find a nice selection. You can also get some 3000K yellow HIDs if you wanted to go that route.

Re: The History of 1badgmc

I haven't renewed the registration or inspection in a few years now, so I can't just get it out and drive it all over the place right now, but I do pull it out of the garage now and then and drive around the neighborhood to give it some exercise. I pulled it out a little over a week ago. I took a chance and got it out on the highway to stretch its legs a bit and blow off the cobwebs. My daughter is almost 2 and had never ridden in the truck, so I took her for a ride and gave my 2 boys a turn riding around a bit too. While I had it out, I figured it'd be a good time to snap a few new pics of it.

Man, I figured you would have seen this before.

This May it will be 16 years that the truck and I have been together. It has been with me through the best times and the worst times of my life. Even though it hasn't been my daily ride in over a decade now, I still feel that the truck is a major part of my life and as long as I'm alive, there will never be a For Sale sign anywhere near it. People are usually amazed when I tell them how long I've had it.

I'm amazed myself that it's been so long when it seems like it was just yesterday that I drove it off the lot and bought a set of headlight covers. I still look at the current color as being "new" when it actuality the truck has worn the color for the majority of its existence now.

Even crazier to me is that in 4 more years I can register the truck as a classic! Man, we're getting old. I just hit the right combination of things when I built it that just totally works for my tastes so much so that I never tire of staring at it. I could back it out of the garage, pull up a chair and stare at it all day and never get bored. Some may think I'm weird, but I'll proclaim it to the world...

I love my truck!

I think there's a country song by that title too.

Jason I totally understand and, like many, wish I had kept a couple of my first vehicles. But life does change some of our plans sometimes. Hope you keep yours for a long time.

I'm glad that, even though life has gotten in the way of me being able to enjoy the truck as much as I'd like, I am still able to keep it and enjoy it when I can. I've grown up in a family that keeps the cars that matter. I have a '94 GMC that was bought new that year. My '88 dually was bought new. And my high school car, a '72 Plymouth Duster 340 4-speed, was my dad's first brand new car and we still have it as well.

I always love seeing where a truck has been and how it has become what it is today. I previously missed this thread and am glad I found it today. Your truck is definately one of my favorites on the site!

Truck still looks good. However, it shouldn't be condemned to a life of retirement, and dust collecting. Get that thing registered and drive it more often!

I don't disagree with you, but with money as tight as it is and the truck being a non-essential vehicle, sacrifices have to be made.

Don't you know I wish!! I'd be working on building myself a nice collection of custom trucks.

It really sucks. I keep hoping some miracle will come along and ease the pain. We've got food on the table and a roof over our heads. Bills get paid on time and we have some fun here and there, but there are plenty of things we have to put off. Unfortunately, the truck is one of them. Insurance on the truck is next to nothing and it is long paid for, so it's not a financial drain which means getting rid of it is NOT an option. I just pull it out now and then, wipe off the dust and take it for a spin around the neighborhood to give it some exercise.

Re: The History of 1badgmc

After 10 years (and 1 week) since its last show, I pulled the truck out Saturday to show it.

Well, the day started off like this...

...but only a few miles later looked like this...

Fuel issues shut it down. He replaced the fuel filter on the side of the road, but it only made it a few more miles before it was throwing codes again. He turned back with the trailer, so I went on to the show without the truck. It's too bad. That rig would have turned some serious heads when it pulled in.

My pics of the show can be seen here:

And a little video for anyone who says a lowered truck is worthless:

That was a clean truck. It probably has a couple of new scratches in the paint. It was parked a couple cars down from where my group was parked. A couple friends and I just happened to be standing in front of it talking when a gust of wind came through and tossed their canopy on the side of the truck. Nobody was around at the time, so my friends and I chased down the wayward poles and pulled the canopy off the truck and stacked their chairs on it so it wouldn't get any worse.

I also noticed last night when I was uploading pics that it has LED fog lights.

Dang Jason, it sucks that you didn't get to show the truck! You're right; that rig would have definitely turned some heads rolling in with your truck & the other one. Btw, nice job on the pics.
