Measure 12" in from the cut edge. I know this doesn't account for the size of the cutoff wheel, but I did it the same on the other side so I just went with it.

Don't zone out and cut the incorrect amount from the wrong spots. I damn near did this. Keep looking at where your cutting. 12" from the front, 8" from the back.

Mark with tape and dust with paint again to make a sharp line and cut. Remember which side you cut from, if you forget and cut from
Outside the line on one side and inside the lines on the other, you could be off by 1/4 of an inch if that makes sense.  Posted via Mobile Device |

Pick up some. Sheet metal clamps from HF. Invaluable.
Make sure your body lines line up and take a level and make sure the bedside continues in a straight line and zap away.  Posted via Mobile Device |

 If I can do this, so can you. Your going to have some gaps here and there, expect that. Just make sure you are good at zapping sheet metal and have a copper backing plate to fill in here and there and you will be fine. If the joint starts pulling I because of the heat by P the metal out with a hammer and dolly. Go slow, don't let the heat build up, and enjoy Your new shortened bed' Posted via Mobile Device |

My truck is a short stepside. I have a long fleetside bed I want to cut down. Your pics make it less intimidating.

Thanks. I have had a few beers so I'm going to make a better post when im able to
 The last pic makes it look like the bed is anted upwards however it is not. Must be a combo of paint/lighting. If you take your time with the measurements and can follow a line with a cutoff wheel anyone can do it. I'm even using an old craftsman wire feed welder from 2001 that I got from bookoo for $60
