Question Gas cap issues....

Has anyone on here ordered a factory replacement gas tank only to find out that when you get it the original cap doesn't fit ???? The filler neck on the repo tank is larger then my original....... What cap will work?????? Where can I get one ????? Everyone I find for a 1972 EEC tank is too small .......

Don't buy a NAPA cap, the rubber seal falls apart in no time at all.....

You can check the cap for a 70 and older tank. They didn't have eec.

Who makes one with a rubber gasket that doesn't fall apart in no time?

Re: Gas cap issues....

Well I found on another thread that someone got one for a 70 model and it worked so I did the same.... I got it on last night and it is really tight .... I also don't have the EEC all hooked up.... Where the line comes to the fuel pump on the frame rail I just ended it there because my fuel pump was a one line hook up deal..... Will this cap cause me issues????

Re: Gas cap issues....

if it is vented it will work ok if it is not vented and you have no vent in the tank you'll have problems

Re: Gas cap issues....

I have a new EEC 72 tank I installed last year. The 72 cap didn't fit so I bent the tank opening, only to find here that they use a pre 72 filler neck on the new 72 tanks (cheaper to use only one filler). Try a 70 cap and it will be tight but fit

Re: Gas cap issues....

If there's no vent your tank will swell up. Mine swelled and started leaking into the cab, but I caught it just as it started.
