Fan shroud measurements - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a radiator that I am trying to ID for the purpose of getting a fan shroud for the truck, it being the truck is a 68 C10 I6 3ott. V8 sbc/700R4 now. The radiator in it now ( 3 core ) is for a auto trans and it does look like it does belong to the fitment of the truck. Truck has a two electric fan setup that isn't mounted real good, has only 2 screws on the top for holding it to the core support. Below is a drawing of what I measured, all measurements are real close to what I have here. **IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE THAT CAN VERIFY IF THEY ARE RIGHT. Thanks, mjgord51

Of what?? The drawing shows all of the mounting holes of the radiator, so that being said would a fan shroud (my drawing) be the same.

My shroud measures the same as your rad. measurements, all is good in the universe...

That's great. I guess now all I have to do is find a shroud, doesn't matter if it's a AC or non AC shroud just need to have the right water pump & the right spacer from w/p to fan blade and the need of keeping it away from the radiator it self, not using a fan clutch here, Looking at a couple threads I noticed a hole lot of engines w/o shrouds a lot more I6's & a few V8's, don't really know if they over heat or not but just sounds like a better deal if the trucks had shrouds on them!!!

Another thing. if the truck has no waterpump fan and just the electric fans the stock shroud will serve no purpose, ( in my simple mind).. If it cools fine theres no need unless you want the stock look of a shroud. I keep reading your 1st post and confused. is it going to be the 6 or 8 cyl. when all said and done? If 6 cyl., I think they only had a tin shroud along the top for safety reasons.

If you have a water pump/belt driven fan blade.. the shroud does seem to channel heat better. Also, it's a safety thing. Fingers and fan blades don't mix well.
I switched to elec fans this year. No shroud at all. There are "cages" of a sort around the fan blades for safety. But the biggest thing for me was the room. I don't see a depth measurement in post #1. But I would guess the depth on my old shroud to be about 6 or 7 inches. Now I can move my engine forward if I need to. Run a long water pump if I want. Even run serpentine belt drives if I want.

I dont like the JUNK YARD look of his (PO's) install, yes it does cool good.
The truck was built as a 68 C10 I6 3ott truck, "now" with V8 sbc/ 700R4 trans, understand now

The distance from radiator to the fan blade mounting point on water pump is 7 1/4" and the distance from engine to fan blade mounting point also the water pump is 7" thinking w/p is a tall one. I will be using a original 6 bladed 18" fan that is 1 3/4" tall/deep/thick.

Jason can you lay it flat on ground and give me a measurement for overall height, I think it'll be in the range of 6-7"tall

5.25" at the top and 5" at the bottom.

It sounds like your V8 engine is in the 6 cylinder frame hole locations giving you that much room between rad and water pump flange. Thats ok as it gives you more room to work with for fan setup.

On this site i was told if there isnt any room from the dist (mine a HEI Accel w/super coil) too fire wall (1/4" or 1/2") then engine is in I6 mount. But if there's more room 1" or so (mine has 1 & 1/4" space) then its in the V8 mount. Dont really know if what I was told is true or not, that thread I would have to dig a little bit to find the person that posted that.

My passenger side top clip has been Gorilla glued on. Works fine but could use some cosmetics..

I had to cut 2 small areas for my hoses to fit by. Unnoticeable in truck. Has the same measurements as yours.

Yes...I use the clips at the bottom.

I guess other than yours in the past (some where in time) I have used some strong wording that didnt take well with Liz from our board members area. Just wanting to clear the air if needed, I as well am thick skinned, I guess you & me are the only ones wearing our big boy pants LOL, just saying
