Changing Booster and MC
OK, Here is the question...................First the build up to the question. I have a 1979 Blazer frame, complete rolling chassie, Brakes, shocks, everything except the body. I am going to use the chassie to put a 1987 Cab on it and make a truck out of it. I am now starting to put things back together after about 8 years of off and on work on it. I picked up a lot of 87 parts over this time period. The one thing that I have a concern about is the Brake Booster came off a 1987 Suburban. THE QUESTION.....Drum roll please.........Will the 87 Suburban Booster and MC work my be using the 1979 Blazer Braking system? I going from this... To This..... . I want to use the Newer Style. Thanks For reading.
John

Well here it is 2018, got the engine in and it runs, now I need to get the exhaust system in so I can adjust the lifters, to loud right now. Got the exhaust on now I am waiting for the break parts to come in. |

Re: Changing Booster and MC
My understanding is no nothing is going to just bolt up. But if you don't mind doing some extra work it could possibly work.

Re: Changing Booster and MC
I would say it should work.
I used an 85 c10 MC and booster on my 80 c10. The brake lines going from the MC to the Proportioning valve were different. I had to use the ones from the 85 since the ones from my 80 wouldn't line up correctly on the MC. Everything works great with no issues.

Re: Changing Booster and MC
I just swapped to a later model master cylinder on my 73
The hole in the firewall was a bit smaller, used a hole saw and some tubing to open it up.

Re: Changing Booster and MC
Sounds good so far 69heavychevy , KQQL IT....you said the hole in the firewall was a bit smaller, maybe that is why the plastic tube does not go into the firewall to well. I'll have to make the adjustment then. Thanks Again. John

Re: Changing Booster and MC
The vacuum booster could be the same, I swapped from power to manual using an 84 manual brake master cylinder.
And had to open up the hole a bit.

Re: Changing Booster and MC
Also make sure the brake pedal hole is proper - may need to be lower or higher?
A pedal for non boosted vs boosted the hole is lower for the rod.

Re: Changing Booster and MC
My 73 was in the top hole, with the booster. Stopped great with 9" vacuum.
