Re: I can only keep one truck, which one would YOU keep?

If you can't use a 4x4, you can apply what you've learned to rebuild the new one, which is more useful. Tuff call though. What would you like to do with the new one? and are you prepared to do it?

Re: I can only keep one truck, which one would YOU keep?

I would keep the GMC,but if the Chevy has better mechanics you could always swap bodies, and get the best of both worlds.
Then sell a 4x4 patina Chevy.

btw I am putting a Muncie 465 in my 2wd chevy, one day i'll add a gear vendor OD and have the best of both worlds and the combo will be bomb proof.

Well it looks like majority rules and you need to keep the GMC and sell me the chevy for the $1000 you paid for it....whistling and looking around.

Re: I can only keep one truck, which one would YOU keep?

Keep the GMC. For drivability I would put in some surplus 10 bolt axles with disk brakes in front posi in the rear and 3.08 gearing for good highway speeds and MPG. Keep the old axles just in case you ever do sell it and the next owner is going to restore it. If you actually use the truck for hauling/towing I would upgrade to 3/4 ton axles (late dana 44 or 10 bolt front and Dana 60 or 14 bolt rear) and run a 3.54 or so ratio to keep the grunt. Gearing depends on what tire size you want to run of course.

If my K20 suburban was not all original I would yank out that crappy th350 and put in a SM465 and cut that hole in the hump/mat in a heartbeat! I might be a PITA to shift in traffic but Ive never had a top loader leave me stranded. Ive even abused one with a big block and broken the teeth of 1st and 2nd gear out in the woods and I still was able to drive the 100miles back home.

Not sure if a 69 is still a divorced T case but if it is just swap in a 2wd NV4500 and then you will have the overdrive you want and dont have to touch the diff gears unless you want to.

That truck would do great with an NV3500, even.

I'll second that.

Sell the Chevy and put the money towards the GMC.

I'd also keep the 4x4 but that's because I'm partial to them. The 4x4 is definitely worth more to a restorer, but the 4x4 also has rarity too.

Re: I can only keep one truck, which one would YOU keep?

Put them both up for sale at a decent asking price
Then the first one sells then keep the other
or
Sell both to get what you want

Re: I can only keep one truck, which one would YOU keep?

Put both up for sale for more than you think they are worth. If one sells, and makes you money, you'll know it was the right move. Let the mighty dollar make the decision

Oh, I see Hutch said pretty much the same thing

Re: I can only keep one truck, which one would YOU keep?

Before I bought my 71 c10 longbed, i was trying to get a 4x4, when I couldnt find one I was looking for a shortbed couldnt find one either, I finally found my longbed that had been sitting for 10 years and the son of the owner sold it to me for a $1200. So a 4x4 gmc is harder to come by then a 3/4 ton longbed, you can always upgrade to newer automatic tranny. My vote is for the 4x4. Whatever you decide you cant go wrong.

Keep the blue one. The patina ship has sailed... I see "patina" values falling. IMHO

Why get rid of either of them! One is a daily driver. One is a weekend ride.

Swap your house for 1000 sq. plus 3000 sq. of garage with 1500 sq. on top. Then you can buy a few more.

My dream property.
