It would only come into play on an L6 -- where the oil filter is mounted sideways. On the V8, the oil filter is on the bottom of the block -- oil pools back into the filter there.
My 292 rattled so loud on cold mornings it didn't matter which I used. lol I see no advantage though....the old filters never had them so I don't see why that would need to change.
