What internally turns off the hazard switch?

Did you try the turn signal to turn it off like Jrainman suggested? Your hazard switch does not look like the standard replacement type switch that I got so maybe you do have the 67 only switch?

AC Delco replacement that is supposed to fit 67-72 (this is what I have and looks a little different than yours)

I'm pretty sure it's the correct part. I crossed referenced the a/c delco switch with the Borg Warner part and had Orielly's Auto check to make sure it was correct as well. Turn signals do nothing to cancel the hazards as well as turning the steering wheel and pushing pressing pulling on the hazard knob. I figured the cam inside the column that also cancels the turn signals would do the same for the hazards but it doesn't. I've played with the new switch and the old and they both operate the same way.

I had that exact same issue when I replaced the turn signal switch in my 69 C20. All I did was install it and put a little force by pulling it out to turn it off. Now I can turn them off like normally.

Did you pul out on the switch assembly or the hazard knob?

Nope, I just put it all together and then after turning the flashers on I tried pulling the knob back out and after pulling with enough force it finally gave in. I'm pretty sure the part of the clip that locks it in is just a little too high because I got the same replacement switch so it just takes some force on the first unlock to make it able to be turned on and off with ease.

my '71 has a red button that you depress to turn on the flashers, and pull to shut them off.

My 72 Blazer had the red switch too. Does anyone know the specifics of switches (red skinny one vs black round one) as it relates to years/plants. I am sure there has to be some pattern.
