But prices really have risen in the last 4-5 years. I bought my first one for $3500, now days I see that same driver quality truck asking $6000. Supply and demand, supply and demand.

Re: The word is out !
I don't think the TV shows are affecting the prices. I've never heard anyone say, "I seen the guys from Fast and Loud sell [make/model] for $xxxx"
I have however, seen and heard "i seen one on ebay for $xxxxx" I think Ebay prices affect sales more than anything else I've seen, with Barrett Jackson and Mecum auctions falling in a distant second place. If I had a dollar for every time someone has said, " I seen one on ebay for....." I'd have a few more C10's on my property. |

Re: The word is out !
you are sooo right, as time goes by there are fewer of these trucks around, and the prices have gone up, I have had a couple of these trucks given to me in the 90's, and bought my son's in late 90's for $400.00,a '70 gmc 3/4 ton 2 wheel dr, 350/350 auto, beautiful truck, we later turned in to a 4wheel drive,he still has it today,it is almost impossible to find a clean truck today under $2000.00

Re: The word is out !
The word on these trucks has been out for years. I think it was about 10 years ago when i read an article in StreetTrucks. The author of the article basically compared the uprising popularity of these trucks to the immortal 32' Ford. He was correct.
All someone has to do is pick up any truck based publication and there is at least one article and or feature on a 67-72 Chevy/GMC truck. I have owned 67-72's since I was 14 years old, not because they are popular but because thats what has called to me. In that time they have only increased in every way possible, except availability of course. I know a lot of guys complain about it, but its that popularity that makes them such an enjoyable hobby. The aftermarket supports just about every possible iteration of these trucks. From lowered to lifted, stock to heavily modified and everything else you can imagine there is a part of the aftermarket that helps support your build. Imagine you were trying to build, modify or restore a 1970 Dodge truck (just an example) good luck trying to find parts for it, whether they are reproductions or OEM, they would be very hard to find. Nevermind aftermarket items. Not popular so no one cares. Basically all I'm saying is that kind of popularity comes with a cost.

Consistent with a few posts above, we're lucky as heck parts remain available.....That's what happens when they manufacture so many of mostly the same truck. Correct me if I'm wrong, but more 67-72 GM trucks were built than any other vehicle during the era, and there's not a close second.

Re: The word is out !
To all, well said. Will agree w/the comments about the TV shows. Just because you have an old Chevy truck doesn't mean it's worth a pot of gold. See this CL posting; http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/cto/5382381463.html. That said and hypocrite that I am, I'm going to go look at this truck this weekend because its relatively close to me and its supposed to be 30 degrees here which is too darn cold for me to get any work done. Its all about the hunt!!!!

Re: The word is out !
Out here in New England these truck in good shape are hard to Find I looked at trucks with rot 6 cylinders 3 on the column standards and these guys wanted 12000 and more if one showed up for 2000 - 6000 they were failing apart and you'd wouldn't get an email back from the guy , I ended up on ebay and saw this truck it had all of my lists of wants , but they want 16,000
I felt it was worth 6000 to me , I made the offer 7000 because I wanted it, the offer declined , I forgot about it , till a few weeks later the price drops 8000 rather then loose it I payed up , as it turned out the Truck has more then I expected and the condition was better then I hoped so I'm happy I have had a 10,000 offer the first week I got it, I'll keep it to flip it just to end up making 1000 is not why I got it http://www.ebay.com/itm/252072110976...xe=exe,ext=ext |
