Hi ya guys ,well this is my first step I've done to my 71 GMC,cleaned up the engine and painted it up a bit ,,,the bay is next..here's and before and after so far. its amazing what a pressure washer and some paint will do..

Looks good BUT you need to get rid of that pretty gas filter and get a metal or plastic one. Those have been known to be a fire hazard and have burned up a bunch of cars and trucks.

yes, one pothole and it will bounce off the bolt head below it and you'll be an unhappy camper. they are fragile. all metal cased ones are the best.

when I got my truck it had one on it,i backed it out of the garage one day and smelled gas and looked under the hood. if you don't know the filter will screw apart so you can clean the filter. well mine had loosened up and was leaking gas a little . could of been a different story if I had been out crusin and the manifold/headers woulda been hot..

here's a then and now pic

The throttle return spring looks a little close to "end of life" in that one picture. Hate to have it get pretty and then run away from ya...

..I might even have a metal one in my hoard.

lol,,thats not my handy work...i have another spring on the lower part of the linkage pulling back , for just in case.

I usually run a clear plastic filter for a while if I don't know what the tank is like on the inside. Lets me know pretty quick if I need to pull the tank and clean it out. Once I know the status of the tank I switch over to the metal one.

I have a glass one on an off topic ride (was on it when I got it) I had some thick hose from something, and I slit it open and wrapped the gas filter in that. You can still see the glass a little from the top. Both ends of the filter have metal lines, it doesn't budge, but it was laying against the intake, scarey. Its on my list of things to replace.

Plenty of people have run those with no issues. But, I agree the potential is there and it's not worth the risk
