Parts swap with 2001-2002 Silverado/Tahoe

Ive been thinking about buying a running 2001 or 2002 Silverado or Tahoe with a 5.3 engine and a 4L60E transmission and using that to put into my 68 C10. I can find one in my area with about 150,000 miles for about $3,000-3,500 and just replace some parts. Not sure if I want to go this route or if it would be cheaper to just buy the engine and transmission cheaper by themselves.

My question is, if I buy the whole vehicle, could I use the A/C parts and the disk brakes (and whatever other parts) from the Silverado or Tahoe for my 68 SWB truck? My truck is not an A/C truck, but would want that at some point. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.

As someone that has bought parts and bought entire trucks, it's usually a lot cheaper buying the whole truck, especially if it's wrecked. All the little parts add up fast.

Using the A/C stuff will work. You will need an evaporator in the cab, but you can use the condenser, drier and a bunch of other stuff. It is probably best to use the newer style condenser in your truck anyway.

Thanks 87Skier, I was hoping to hear someone say that was the best route to go because I would rather know that what im buying actually is a good running engine and transmission. Also, I know the parts add up fast. Would it be a problem using the disk brake setup as well? Thanks for your response.

There was a post a few months back where a guy put a '71 cab and bed on an '01 Tahoe frame. Never saw the finished photos but it looked good what he had.

No, you cannot use the '01 brakes on your 67-72.

I have full access to a 2002 silverado and have the same question. I was planning on waiting on the Ls swap until later but with the AC being a possibility with the swap as well... I might be looking into that sooner rather than later.

The seats are coming out tomorrow to get mocked up in my 67.
I'm bummed the brakes won't work though

I'll be back to this thread

That's what I figured. I have mostly 4wd stuff so I know that you can't swap stuff from solid axle to IFS, but wasn't sure on the 2wd trucks.

Re: Parts swap with 2001-2002 Silverado/Tahoe

i have a yukon that is being a doner. 5.3, 4l60, 2wd, disc brake rear 3:73.
the yukon i have is coil spring and im thinking of using this but the rear end is narrower than a silverado truck rear end and ill be cutting off alot of mount brackets!
Ill ave to fab something to make the rear e brakes work as well
Also, i wont be able to run my fat 15" wheels. they will not clear the caliper.
