Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

Having spent thousands of dollars with CPP, I'd won't buy or even trust what they say again. So much BS and back tracking. Descriptions say one thing, dude on the phone says another thing and calls the description out for being wrong. WTF

Here is my 2.5 modular spindle + 2 spring running 275/40/20 mounted on 20x8.5" rims all the way around. I will try very hard to get what my backspacing is in the next couple days. Personally, I wish it was another 3/4" more on either side. Please please, someone message me if I haven't by Sunday.

here are two more shots
I have zero miles on this truck so the alignment hasn't been done yet, might be off on the driver side camber

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

I'd be very interested in the backspacing there too. I've seen the 6 lug version of these (AR104 - 20x8.5 w/ 5.5bs) on a 70 c10 and they required the hub being machined and 2" spacers.

I am about to install the Hotchkis TVS and CPP Big Brake Kit with 2" Modular Drop Spindles on my 1970 C10 SWB Fleetside. I am planning on 20x10 American Racing VF494 (6 lug version of VF493). Due to the lead time on building the wheels, I am trying to determine the BS before starting the work.

Does CPP make a 2.5" Modular Drop spindle?

No.
Just standard 2.5" drop spindles and 2" Modular spindles.

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

I have the modular drop on mine and PB control arms. I just ordered wheels yesterday
I went with 8.5 with 5in bs. I hope it works out!

Ok, then the above picture has 2" + 2". I feel like it's lower than many other trucks running similar tires but with 5-5.5" of drop. I'm debating raising the front some or lowering the rear. It's a DD, so that's why I'm worried about the front clearance.

Anyway, yes, they are modular. The ones with the separate billet bearing carrier. PN 7387swbk-5

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

CPP standard 2.5" drop spindles, Hotchkis 2" springs. 19x9, 6" b.s., 275/35 tire. I would've liked a bit more lip in front, but these fit perfect and don't rub. I did a lot of research and measuring before telling the guys at Schott what I wanted. Mistakes can get expensive when getting custom made wheels.

Looks perfect to me.
In my opinion you did it right.
Add suspension,... Then measure for wheels.
Not the other way around.

The "table of contents" for CPP's catalog says 2" modular spindles. Click on the details and you get...

Our exclusive new design gives you 1-1/8" more clearance at the fender and helps solves tire to fender interference commonly found with lowered trucks. Spindle and brackets works with factory 1971-87 C10 brake components. The ALL NEW CPP Modular Spindle offers many benefits available for the first time, installs easy without modifications, works with factory ball joints and tie rod ends, lowers your truck a full 2-1/2".

It also says 2.5" in the blue section of the online catalog.

as far as I can tell, if your spindle uses a bracket to hold the caliper, instead of it being cast into the spindle, they are "modular". Mine use the bracket and separate billet wheel hub.

So..... I don't get it hahaha

No build thread, but I have pics of the build posted on my profile page in my albums. Rear wheels are 19x12, 345/30 tires, 6" b.s. there too.

I did see that CPP calls their modular spindle a 2.5" drop now. I went with the 'classic' spindle when I made my purchase because at the time, the 'modular' spindle was only a 2" drop. They basically keep your truck's front track width the same as the stock drum brake front end, if that's how your truck was originally equipped. So I would think if your truck already had disc brakes stock, the modular spindle would narrow your track width a little more than 1/2".

Backspace is just numbers.
Get out the straight edge and tape measure.

The multi colored truck above with the BOSS rims has 4.75" of backspacing. Just measured. Sorry for taking so long

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

I managed to get the TVS Kit, CPP Drop Spindles, and CPP Big Brake kit installed on my 1970 C10 w/power drums all the way around. All that work and my BS did not make a measurable change.

Problems I ran into:
CPP Master Cylinder (Cannot get properly bled on bench/truck)
CPP Prop Valve (DOA)
Original Axles were warped and discs would not work right (rubbing while rolling)

What I've got:
2002 5.3L w/4l60e
Hotckis TVS Kit
CPP Modular Drop Spindles
CPP Big Brake Kit (F/R)
Moser Axles A30-70GMT4
Wheels: American Racing VF494 20x9.5; 6x5.5; 5" BS
Tires: Nitto 421Q 275/40r20

The truck is dirty as heck, but the stance came out right. Don't look at my bumpers!

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

That looks awesome, I'm glad to see it worked out after all that 'head scratchin' & figgerin'!

Call me crazy, but I actually like white bumpers on light/med green trucks.

Re: Cpp modular drop spindles and wheel backspacing

Thanks! I like the white bumpers too, but they are in pretty bad shape. Will probably have them blasted and repainted body color. That should let the wheels standout without being too blingy.
