What kind of seam sealer to use?

Did all the prep of cleaning out the drip rail on my burb. I dont want to mess this up. There are a ton of seams...in all directions...What have you guys had good luck with? Anything I should stay away from?

I used a two part self leveling seam sealer on my drip rails.

I ended up with self leveling SEM. And im going to figure something else out for the back seams that are slanted. I cant believe it cost me more for seam sealer than the gunmetal paint for my whole roof, bumpers and grill. Crazy stuff.

I used Evercoat Maxim self leveling. It, like most good ones, is a two part sealer. Uses a single style tube cartridge that has the two parts divided internally. The mixing occurs with a special mix tip, super easy.

How thick are these products ? Are they runny? I would like to seal the troughs at the rear barn doors ,they are almost vertical and dont want a mess to clean up. Perhaps even some upside down work on the sil extensions. Thanks

Self leveling will only work on horizontal gutters. You will need a different product for the rear vertical gutter. It may seem initially that the mixed product is stiff enough to work, but as it cures, it thins and levels out.

What is the easiest way to remove the seam filler? I found a roof to swap and will have to do two roofs.

I used a twisted wire wheel and a roloc clean and strip disc.

I've had real good luck with Lord Fusor. http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/fuso...e-p-30952.aspx I get the neutral color which is the same color as the label, kind of tan color. It's not priced too bad either. I've had the 3m stuff just peel right back off....

I wire wheeled most of it out and also used a screw driver/hammer combo for some chunks.

The guy at the paint store told me a few ways of using the self leveling stuff...he said for vertical stuff you can lay it down on wax paper and peel it off before you stick it on...didnt try it but i think it could work. I ended up doing my vertical seals with the self leveling...i just masked really good...laid it out really carefully...smoothed it with my finger, and then removed the tape before it dried so the edges could smooth out. Everything around my rear hatch turned out really good. Good thing at 50 bucks a tube!

Self leveling is the way to go in the drip rails. I have used Polyurethane caulk the good results in other area's vertical seams etc....3m 5200...$10.00 for 10oz tube, Sika flex 1a $6.00 10oz tube. no problems paint over, 20 years later it's still flexible.

How quickly did the self leveling stuff set up on the vertical run? Some have said you cannot use it on vertical surfaces, and some say you can. I plan on using 3M 08307 2-part sealer on mine and don't want to buy something else for the vertical runs if I don't have to.

Yeah it actually turned out really nice...set up time goes fast..like 10 minutes or so. I did the drivers side, then the top, then the passenger side in three different applications. I also used tape to mask the lines...let it self level...and even used my finger a little...after a little set up I removed the tape and that little edge smoothed right out. I used the 2 part 3m stuff...about 45 bucks a tube. Turned out really nice.

5200 is some pretty permanent stuff ,24 hour cure time , its almost liquid for hours
