17" dually wheel swap

I have a 1998 C&C dually rear end that I have converted to disc brakes. I was told that the calipers would hit on the 16" wheels and that a 17" dually wheel from '08 -'10 would need to be used to give clearance of the caliper. I checked bolt pattern and those seem to match up. I could not find any factual information on the hub centers of the 17" wheels. My current hub and 16" wheel is 4.56 hub center. I got a hold of a tire company rep and he said the 17" wheels have a 4.60 hub center diameter. Since these dually wheels are hubcentric, I'm .040" larger in diameter with the 17" wheels than the 16" wheels and this concerns me. I would like to stay with a stock wheel if possible, but right now I'm up for any resolution. Has anyone swapped out their '73 - '98 16" dually wheels for 17" wheels? Any advise or suggestions to getting to a 17" wheel all the way around the truck???

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: 17" dually wheel swap

You'll need hub-centric rings to adapt the later model 17"s to the earlier model hubs. They take up the slack so the hub remains the pilot for the wheels vs the studs.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Can you tell us more about these centering rings? What they look like, where do you get them?

Re: 17" dually wheel swap

I was told the hub centers of the 17" wheels would need to be machined out at least 3/8 of an inch in order to allow the centering ring to have enough meat on it to hold up. Does this sound correct or is there an easier way?

The ones I had made are not thick @ all. I was going to use 03-13 Dodge Ram 3500 wheels which also have a larger center bore. These were machined aluminum of the difference between the two dimensions. They had the dimensions on their website for the difference of the hubs. I would have to look through my receipts for the company. I can get some pics of them by then end of the weekend (they're @ my shop).
