Re: C30 4x4 conversion

springs are longer. If you are swapping the whole frame, no biggie. If you use the later springs on the earlier frame it will yield a little bit of lift due to relocating rear shackle mount. The frame continues to drop behind original location, so mounting point will be lower on the frame

Re: C30 4x4 conversion

Would it work to use a 3/4 ton front axle?

Re: C30 4x4 conversion

because we love pics here, and is it leaf front end? if it is just get a front axel assembley thingy and put it on the front, get a t case, mount it, run your driveshaft, and plumb the brakes and vents and bang you are done, if its ifs, well either new frame or do alot of fab work.

Yep you should be able to use a gm 3/4 Dana 44. Either the 44 or the Dana 60 will bolt up just the same. any 71-72 or square body front axle will bolt up and be most ideal with disk brakes, once it's converted to front leaves. However you will likely need front dually adapters to run your current wheels.

Re: C30 4x4 conversion

Will adding the dually wheel adapters be hard on the wheel bearings? Will it still be Okay to use the truck and load it heavy?

On a D44 I don't know if you'll be able to get anything other than an aftermarket adapter. Make sure you use a big hub D44 that has the larger bearings other wise the small hub may not like the added weight etc.

A Dana 60 would probably be better suited for the job correct?

Exactly. I forgot to mention how the D44 ball joints may wear out every year too. Not to mention the little u joint if you plan to use the 4wd.

Yes sir your correct on that. Those king pins on the 60 are tough as nails compared to the ball joints. Ujoints are another big plus on the 60.
