Re: 86 C10 2wd 6.0 Cold Air Intake Advise Driver Side?
Well you've got the alternator right there, so your intake will have to go forward first to clear the pulley, and clear your radiator and fan. You've probably got copious room so long and your engine isn't spaced far forward.
I'd think the regular Ebay Silverado or Ebay TBSS cold air intake kit would be the usual starting point. Just flip the first 90" coupling the the right and see if it clears. Here's a pic I stole of the regular intake for reference. If it doesn't clear that belt and pulley, you'll have to space it out by doing like a short straight stub out from the TB, then connect the rest as normal. You might be able to cut a piece from the leftover pipe in the ebay intake, or grab a short piece that spectra or them sell to build your own kits. Mines not an 86, or on the drivers side, but fwiw; I started with an 04 Silverado kit and trimmed it slightly by ditching the extension piece and airbox, and only running the short kink and the couplings. I ran that setup for a while, then decided I wanted to get cold air from the core support. Made an inlet in the core support, and added a poly 90* (from those piece together intakes you can get). Decided to make a quick airbox as well with some hand tools. As a matter of fact, I did a video with some mention of the topic.

Here is mine going to the drivers side. Less than $100.00 including the K&N filter!

I like the way you mounted your air box on the left side. What is the air box out of? I have been looking for a box that will work on the left. Thanks Kenny

Funny thing.. Gool Ol autozone to the rescue. An off the shelf spectre cold air intake for I think a 99-06 1500 with a K&N filter. Works just fine.

Re: 86 C10 2wd 6.0 Cold Air Intake Advise Driver Side?
I dont know where you are on your build but you may want to consider moving your battery to the drivers side on the 86 . There is a oem style battery tray for these trucks . Just made sense to me . The engine battery harness already goes to that side on the donor . Also all the extra power needed was closer to the area needed for terminals to supply everything . Cleared the path for the cold air intake on the pass side .
This is the best picture I have right now . Cant see the battery in this picture but it is there . I do have a different intake and cold air intake on it now but looks the same ( specetra ) but it is for the silverado . I do not run an air box , but there is a factory opening in the core support that supplies air to the filter .I may build one one day . Last edited by homemade87; 05-08-2018 at 06:49 AM. |

Re: 86 C10 2wd 6.0 Cold Air Intake Advise Driver Side?
Just for reference, on the dyno I gained 15hp just by moving the airfilter outside of the engine bay. Once it was hot it was reverting to low octane tspark tables due to excessive knock... Its worth ducting it out !

Re: 86 C10 2wd 6.0 Cold Air Intake Advise Driver Side?
I just purchased a 90* silicone elbow, 2ft of 4” aluminum, and a 45* aluminum section. It will be placing the intake element right behind the driver side light. I’ll be making a enclosure for it out of sheet metal as a shield from the heat and water. I’m not running the wheel wells. You can make a Intake with straight tubing and a silicone coupler.
