F body pan on 99 4.8 motor

I'm swaping a new pan with the motor in the truck. I'm having trouble getting the pan in there. Can I remove or cut these studs? I'm guessing the correct answer is take them out and replace with bolts? It looks like they might even hit the bottom of the Camaro pan when I bolt it up. What have you done with this oil pan swap?

Have you tried the pan on it? I have never had to cut or replace any bolts to swap an f body pan.

I can't get the new pan fished up in there because it hits these two studs.

Is the engine still in the truck? You'll have to lift it up a bit....

Those are your main cap bolts. I would not cut the ends off of them and def do not remove them.

If you can't get the pan on as it sits, lift the engine.

The motor and trans mount bolts are removed and the motor is lifted until the trans contacts the cab. Doing something to eliminate these studs would be the easiest option. The camaro windage tray does not use these studs.

Have you put the oil pick up tube on it yet? You may find it sticks down just as much as those studs.....

I haven't and yea I thought that might be the case. I figure the camaro LS motor can't have studs here so I can do whatever that configuration is. Probably bolts. Then see if that works.

ls1 your swap post was one of the first I read years ago. I admire your work with the speedo etc... So you've put a F body pan on a truck motor with studs that look like this? Do even F body LS motors have studs on the front caps? I suppose I could just measure it all out myself.

First off, thanks for the compliments, I post stuff in Hope's that it will help people with their own swaps. But yeah, I have put f body pans on truck engines before, but honestly don't know if they had those studs because I never paid that much attention, they just always went right on. I will be pulling the f body pan off my '33 Ford here real soon (long story, LOL) and it has a 2001 Camaro LS1 in it and I can check to see if it has them, but you're probably not going to want to wait for that.

Ok, so curiosity got the best of me so I went and pulled the pan off my old mock up engine, a real deal 2002 Camaro ls1 and it has those bolts with the studs on all the main caps.

Perfect good to know! I guess I will do what I can to get the motor up higher and bolt the pan on.
