Difference in consoles
Trying to see if anyone has info or a preference mainly on an original center console compared to the repop consoles. This is my first pickup with bucket seats and it had a later model console in it so I’m not sure how the original was compared to new ones. I’m trying to get one bought for my 71 and if i need to wait and find a nice original I can or if the new ones are good I’ll get one of those. Thabks

Re: Difference in consoles
I used a reproduction in my truck. I like it. And yes, I admit it isn't original.
However, it has round holders for drinks instead of the small square slots for the original seat belts. I find it more practical for actual use. I also prefer the height of the console to be raised a little from the stock location. I built mine up about 4 1/2 inches. I made it tall enough to mount the amplifier for the stereo under it, with enough room for airflow. Others may/will disagree with my decision, but again, it's about personal choice. I paid less than $100 for the reproduction console, and since nothing else about my truck is absolutely stock, it fits with the theme just fine. Final note, I am not sure what year they actually started using consoles in pickup trucks. Everything I read says they are "Blazer style" reproductions. I think bucket seats in '67 and '68 were all buddy buckets, with a center fold up/down seat back for the center section. If you're going for absolutely stock, I am sure there are answers using the search engine on this site. Others will know for sure. I would say use what you like, unless you are doing a true restoration. Best of luck! |

Re: Difference in consoles
As you likely know, up to 72 had the square seatbelt holders, then 73+ had round cup holders. The cup holders are likely a lot more practical if you're not hardcore about originality!

Re: Difference in consoles
There’s just something about a real nice original one that just looks right. Not that the new ones don’t, they just seem to be a little thinner and flimsy. I’m not 100% purist must be original on it since it’s got a couple little doo dads that are changed but I think the cup holders would be more practical.
