Re: Power Steering Conversion for 60-62-answers

I don't quite understand how the pitman arm is causing a problem with the power steering pump. The pitman arm should be connected to the steering box and that should be positioned the opposite direction from the front cab mount. What steering box adapter plate are you using? The power steering conversion should work with a factory or original style replacement steering box and pitman arm.

For you guys that did this conversion, How close does your Centerlink get to the Crossmember? Mine gets really close. like within probably 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch.

I'm trying to track down exactly what collapsible shaft to use for the 60-62 trucks.

Re: Power Steering Conversion for 60-62-answers

Since your cab is a '65, is your steering column a '60-'62 or a '63-'66?

I have not done this, but I would think that a '73-'87 collapsible steering shaft would work.

Re: Power Steering Conversion for 60-62-answers

It's presently a 60-62, but I have a 66 th400/th350 column I will be swapping in when I install my th350 tranny.

Re: Power Steering Conversion for 60-62-answers

Not sure if this helps, some more info.

Just put an colapable Borgeson set-up in 1964 K10, for safety and really tight steering. Used two universal joints and a shaft. Not cheap but works really well. Used original shaft and cut some of it off, plus a little machine work on end connecting to one of the universal joints. This set up gets rid of the rag joint ( much tighter steering). The set-up allowes the steering shaft to be centered in firewall and cab, as the PS conversion moves the connect at the steering box out from the frame some, changing the original alignment of shaft.
Will post more info on parts/ process soon, here are a couple of photos.

Got any better picture of the bracket on the frame before installing the box? And better pictures of the box bolted up? It looks like the top rear bolt bolts the box to the bracket.
