Sucks how it 'started' but it's shaping up to be a nice resurrection of a cool little truck.
Nicely done patch repair for your first attempt. I'd just rock a rattle-can re-spray in a color that matches better. Use some finer grade Scotch-Brite or steel wool to help w/the blend.
