Re: canister vs. screw on oil filter
My original 68 327 has the cannister. I have only done one oil change so far, but it was easy on the lift. The o-ring came right out and it really wasn't that messy with an oil drain thingy under it. I am trying my best to keep everything as original as possible just because the truck is so nice, but if I had a truck that was not original or not in really good shape, I would convert it for ease.

Re: canister vs. screw on oil filter
The knowledge I've obtained over the years:
The small journal small block went away in 1967, also last year for cartridge oil filter 1968 and up is spin on. This is for small block. |

Re: canister vs. screw on oil filter
If it's like the Franz filter, it takes a roll of toilet paper...if you can find one!

Re: canister vs. screw on oil filter
My '69 3/4 ton with a 350 (casting date Nov.27, 1968) came new with a canister filter. I installed a spin-on kit sometime in the 70s. However, the cars may have switched to spin-on earlier than trucks.
