Steering column questions
Hey folks. Will a 67-72 tilt column bolt into a 1982 Crew Cab ? Are they the same length ? The goal is to eliminate the key on the column. Is there an easier way to do this. Ideally the column would be a floor-shift, tilt column. Thanks. Brad Moore.

Re: Steering column questions
I would think you would need a van column of 1974 up with a dash mounted key...

Re: Steering column questions
82 and older van columns are the same as a 67-72 basically. they won't bolt into your truck either I don't think. my 76 van one wont for sure.

Re: Steering column questions
You maybe able to change the 82 Van upper section of the columns. On to your column but you will need with the same option. It's been a long time now since I see the van 81-82 columns if the set up sizes in upper tilt the same it may work. But I think the Vans columns come with the shift indicator on the columns it can remove re-work that area
it would look like it was factory. Then you could go with key on the dash or push button start. This may help try your conversion https://bowtieguy.proboards.com/thre...r-repair-renew

Re: Steering column questions
This is the Shift lever Housing (pic of this part is A/T, you would need a >( M/T ) one.)
This way you get rid of the hump for the shift lever.

Re: Steering column questions
What about just modifying the column you have now?
Pull it apart, and remove the key/locking section. Otherwise you may lock up at a very annoying time. Cut the key bump out of the column, and epoxy a piece of sheet metal behind it. Then fill the divet in with fiberglass bonds or JB weld. Sand, and paint. Move key to dash, and enjoy. |

Re: Steering column questions
Absolutely right ! That is the new plan. Rebuild the inside, modify the outside. Thanks to everyone for the input.
