Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

That is quite the find, and a nice looker that will church up nicely.

The hood maybe a good candidate for the clr clean, and will leave the patina. Just removes the rust.

I had a chance to buy a fully optioned C10 with 454, and the Big10 a few years back. But it looked alot like that truck, but green/green instead

Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

I think the paper you posted states stepside. I personally saw a black and a orange truck with the white stripes they talk about. If you can find a pic they followed the body lines of the stepside. When I went to the dealer with my Dad to special order his stepside. He ordered a Moss Gold Stepside with a 454 Turbo 400 and 373 posi. He was getting rid of a 72 all black stepside Big Block 402 etc. I begged him to get the Orange or the black. I could be wrong about the package but that is my memory of those trucks

That’s a nice truck even if it wasn’t a special order. Nice find!

Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

I don't think the sports had side trim. It would conflict with the stripes.

Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

Congrats Dave, another great find! (I still wish I'd bought that 72 in Vegas btw... ha).
Does it still have the SPID? It looks like it has Silverado interior trim(?) I was thinking the Sport option was only available on Scottsdales. Whatever it is, that's a very cool truck. Can't wait to see what you do with it!

OH YEA! Jocko... that 71 in vegas was a keeper. i also wish i still had that one. And you are correct my friend..it is a silverado trim so that puts sport truck out..... Well than what do you think i have???? i see from the factory brochure that black wasnt a color choice? im pretty sure it is a special order. but ?? i know its not a trailering special because of the low GVW.

HELP... anyone?

Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

Looks like 9V1 is for black 76 sport with red interior. I know black was an option in 76 because my neighbors dad had a black one . Stepside with the white stripes. I have seen the orange, black, and red ones in person. Never seen a blue one except for sale on the internet. Looks like you've got a neatly optioned bog block silverado there .

Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

This was a 1976 model year Sport truck package and was available ONLY on the stepside pickups. It was a Scottsdale model only. My local GM dealer in fall of 1975 ordered in eight 4x4 versions of them on the lot and 2 of each color when I was trying to buy one in high school. They were all equipped the same and the special windshield price on each was $4995. I will never forget seeing them all lined up on the hill at their dealership.
They also had a Spirit of '76 package on fleetside versions which kinda came after the Gentleman Jim and the Beau James versions of the two years before. The '76ers had striping and mostly white interiors with special '76 badges which were also been used on 3 or 4 car models and the fleetside.

Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

ok i agree.. its not a sport. Color black was not listed as offered in the 1976 brochure. and with the 454 powered short bed, could it be just a stock order truck? im not sure?

Re: got a 1976 Chevy Sport Truck

I am not an expert by any stretch. I know in 1972 my Dad ordered a Black stepside 402 turbo 400 373 posi. We live in DC Metro area. So chevy dealers were a plenty. As a young boy I went with my Dad trying to order that truck. No one wanted to do it. Finally A dealer said I know how to get that truck and he did. My Dad sold the 72 and in 76 order a moss gold stepside with a 454. It was a special order truck. I have the paperwork. I think just about any 1/2 ton with a big block was a special order. 3/4 tons with big block just like in the 67-72s are much more plentiful. Either way you have a nice truck.

thats a very interesting story. and sounds like your dad is a bit of a hot rodder. kool. i also thought it was a special order. I Still think it might had been a dealer special order for the showroom. 454, Black short bed, cab lights, bed rails. im sure it stood out when new. thx for your reply. dave
