Pretty much. There's a 'cup' mounted on the radiator support that holds the end of the filter and keeps the intake in place.

FWIW I had a new toy a couple of years ago that was a thermocouple temperature probe. I put the TC in various locations in the engine bay and didn't see much temperature variation as I drove around.

The filter hides behind the fan shroud and is about even with the crank pulley on the engine. I doubt this truck will ever see rain, much less water that'd be high enough to get sucked in the filter, but I suppose it is a possibility.

Before I painted it...........
