I'm sure its been asked before but I'm not getting the search results i'm looking for....

I have a 76 k10 with TH350 & NP203 transfer case. It has a part-time conversion from Rancho suspension installed. The chain is stretched, and at heavy acceleration or uphill, etc, it will slip or rub the casing making sounds. I've seen issues where the chain will bind and punch a hole in the case, yikes!

So my question is, how can i fix it? Of course the chains are no longer made and i'm afraid to purchase a used as it may be stretched as well. I've heard of a tensioner kit but cannot find one???

The NP205's are getting harder to find, so i'd prefer to fix this one, but if I find a deal on a 205, can someone confirm what i understand?

Parts needed for 205 conversion:
  • Fig 8 bolt pattern
  • drive shafts
  • adapter plate for TH350

If you go with a 205. Use the 203 parts to make a doubler. A guy I was familiar with did it, and had a nice combo for everything but towing.

One item to add to your list would be the spline coupler required to mate a 28-spline NP205 to your TH350. If you are fortunate enough to acquire the transfer case from a an existing rig then you should get it as part of the package, but I've seen NP205's advertised locally as "complete with adapter and crossmember" which failed to include it.

As 1972K20 pointed out, the fellows at OffRoadDesign.com will have what you need if you go the 205 conversion route. It is a crying shame that the 203 chains are no longer available because unlike most I think that transfer case is excellent. But then I like QuadraJets too, so I'm certifiably weird.

Re: '76 np203

I thought there was a source for new chains. I'm pretty sure I got the info here just a couple years ago. My76 K15 has 190k miles and the 203 is still nice and quiet.
