Re: Smog states

Like Warren said, Arizona requires all trucks 1967 and later in Maricopa and Pima counties to be tested. Outside of the PHX and Tucson metropolitan areas, not required.
BTW, Maricopa's is a lot more stringent.
One way around the testing is to get Year Of Manufacture plates AND collector car insurance and you're exempt. I have a '69 - '72 Lemon Yellow AZ plate on my '71 Jimmy. No more ADEQ tests.
Still have commercial plates on my '68 C/10 Stepside, and that rig has to pass emissions every October. With a 292 L6, it's easier to pass than the V8s. And if it flunks, we jet down the Edelbrock 1404, adjust the lean mixture and run thru again. Once I get renewed, we put the high performance jets and metering rods back in. But last year, I think they just passed me to be cool. It was Friday, almost 6 O'clock, and they liked my classic truck. Checking my rear view mirror, I didn't see the guy put the probes in my tailpipes. I only idled thru it, didn't have to spin the treadmill roller, and it read 0 hydrocarbons.

Fun fact: The Fremont Plant where GM built 2 of my trucks, in Bay Area California, is now the Tesla assembly facility.

Nice of them to do that, but if they get caught, the penalties are pretty severe.

I think their Supervisor had already split. It was getting dark, and I was the last and only vehicle. And I only THINK they let me by. It's quite possible my 292 burns so very clean.

Re: Smog states

Central Ohio has no emissions test. Good thing because i might have only 1 that would pass.

Re: Smog states

ID doesn't have smog tests as of July. However, I was sent a smog test for my truck at the beginning of June. Knowing they were going to stop testing, I decided to ignore the notice. I guess I'll find out what happens the next time I register the truck

Biggest problem is we haven't enough electricity now.
It could be an issue in the future. An analysis by KPMG says the U.S. currently has enough generating capability to charge 80 million EVs during overnight hours—hence the need to control when cars are charged. The Edison Electric Institute estimates there could be 26 million EVs on the road by 2030, up from about 3.2 million today.

Charging electric vehicles is quite electricity intensive. While a direct comparison with appliances depends on many variables, an owner of a new Tesla Model 3 who drives the national average of around 14,000 miles per year would use about the same amount of electricity charging their vehicle at home as they would on their electric water heater over the course of a year.

“I think right now people have an overly simplistic view of what electrification of transportation means,” said Kevala CEO Aram Shumavon. “If done right, it will be phenomenal; if mismanaged, there are going to be a lot of upset people, and that is a real risk. That’s a risk for regulators. That’s a risk for politicians, and that’s a risk for utilities.”

For what it's worth, I drive a Tesla everyday. I have roof top solar and haven't had an electrical bill, except the base fee of $20 all summer long. That includes charging my car. Only fuel I have purchase in the last 3 months was a fill up of supreme for my LS 1972 truck. I can drive 300 miles on $6 of elect if I charge at home. The car is crazy efficient.
And this is relevant to the topic how ? The OP is asking about smog tests on our vintage truck nothing to do with EVs
