Re: Title / vin issues - suggestions?

I am surprised more people don't mention to verify "both" partial vins stamped on the driver's side frame rail. The one in front (by steering box) is the one most commonly messed with. Or could have been damaged in front end collision repair.
But, the partial vin# on top of the D/S frame rail just in front of the rear cab mount, is really hard to mess with.

I always try and check them (especially when I have some doubt) using a flashlight, a telescoping mirror and small angled wire brush. Sure, laying on your back scraping rust and dirt on to your face is no fun but it can save you a huge hassle.

I was recently very surprised that a CHP investigator I was dealing with didn't even know there was a second vin so maybe they all aren't stamped??????

Lightbulb Re: Title / vin issues - suggestions?

Not all had both, or even any at all.

I have had three of these trucks (Blazers) with the body off. All three had both VINs on the drivers side rail. One by the steering box and the other under the drivers seat area.

One is a 1970, the other two 1972's. All built in St. Louis.

Cool. Good to see that you got it sorted out.

Back when my aunt gave me my 71 GMC that was my uncle's truck since the early 70's it came with a replacement title because they couldn't find the title to tag it after a move. a couple of years later when she was cleaning out one drawer at a time to move to Mississippi wihout a semi truck load of stuff they found the original title that I have tucked away for personal historical value.

Pre internet someone could have taken that title across country and got a title from a no inspection state with it.
Now it will redflag.
