Re: mechanical oil pressure gauge.

I know this thread is old but it's the exact topic I was going to post about so no reason to create a new thread. To convert from a mechanical gauge to an electric still using the stock gauge cluster bezel, would something like this 2-1/16th gauge work and just pair it with a sending unit? I think the stock gauge however is 2-1/8th though right? Maybe I'd have to remove part of this gauge to fit it into my bezel? https://www.jegs.com/i/VDO/918/350-040/10002/-1

Re: mechanical oil pressure gauge.

I've not done it but I don't think that will look right. If I was going to do it I would get a gauge from a square body.

That's a great idea. So I think number 3 or 4 at LMC might be the way to go then. I could just buy a sending unit that matches the spec her and pop this in with maybe minimal modification?

Re: mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Do I put an NPT plug in the oil port on the engine when I remove the mechanical oil line and then where do I connect the electric oil sending sender?

The electrical oil pressure sending unit will screw into the same port that the mechanical one did on the back of the block. The electrical sender will need to have a 1/8" National Pipe Thread on it.

It should be like this one but double check it.

Re: mechanical oil pressure gauge.

I need to replace the 0-60psi gauge in my cluster, but every site I have visited for a STOCK oil pressure gauge, does not state was the pressure range is of the gauge.

I bought this new instrument cluster, with the 0-8000rpm factory style tach, from Brothers Truck over a year ago, and now that the engine is actually running, it pins the oil pressure gauge, just by blipping the throttle pedal.

Really don’t want to have the bourdon tube fail, and have hot oil all over the new carpet...
I think it’s safe to say that a 0-100psi gauge would be the range required.

I also followed the link provided by DJ_Barr earlier, and found this one that looks very similar to the factory oil pressure gauge...but I really don’t want to cut up a brand new instrument panel if there is a factory 0-100psi gauge that will “bolt-in”.

Any ideas?

I bought my gauge from LMC https://www.lmctruck.com/1967-72-che...ic-instruments

But you're looking one that shows a value up to 100?

I ended up putting in an electronic gauge ultimately.

With a blip of the throttle, the stock oil pressure gauge needle swings way far right, to the point I can’t even see the needle at all. I thought it fell off the first time I looked at it.
When I did the new tach number decal upgrade, I remember seeing that it was only a 0-60 psi.

I had the same thing happen to me. I switched out the sending unit and that solved the problem. The sending unit has to match the gauge. Funny thing is both sending units were rated as compatible with the gauge I used.

This is the stock mechanical gauge...no sender to change out.
There is a stock 0-80psi gauge, but finding hen’s teeth would be easier.

Thinking of getting an Autometer 2634 electric 0-100psi and modifying the instrument cluster.

Ordered this one.
See what kinda mess I can make trying to fit it into the stock instrument panel.
