need info on distributors
the 68 wouldnt fire so i traced it down to a burnt wire going into the coil, what are some causes of that? what brand, type coil should i replace it with? Im thinking of getting a whole new distributor since it wasnt rebuilt when i put the truck together, any help as to what to look for?

I see you have a newer electronic version. Check the plug wire closest from that termial to see if it was arcing over. You can get a new one at NAPA or the dealership. Might want to get new plug wires too.

binford may have nailed it, but I'll take a guess too.
Did the red wire (power) rub on the metal plates of the coil (ground)? That would explain the sudden loss of smoke in the wire! Good Luck!

Hey lost wages your problem is a missing ground strap-check photo-you can pick up one at parts store (most are all metal).
