Thanks Sunshine! I think it's beautiful. My wife will at least admit "it has a lot of character. More character than paint!"

Ain't that the truth! My wife's last two cars were Infiniti SUVs, and we got the first few oil changes for free. But starting at around 15K miles, the dealers (I used two of them over the years) would text me saying the car needed a bunch of services, even if the owner's manual showed them due at 30K-75K. And the prices were off-the-charts crazy -- usually $900-$1,100 total!

She now has a Kia Telluride, which blows away both the Infinitis. And so far the dealer service department hasn't done anything but change the oil & filter and thank us for our business. Apparently they didn't get the e-mail about building profit through unnecessary, overpriced maintenance.

My wife and youngest son have Souls, and I have a Forte. The dealer's service department has never tried to hustle anything on us, unlike the local Toyota dealer. Those guys were nothing short of predatory.

Update my electric usage was $35 for the month of November . Delivery was $142 dollars and a bunch of other tax’s added on top . Real rip off if you ask me

Re: Tesla vs Chevrolet

Ok, don't throw rocks but 95% of our (wife and I) driving is under the 80% safe limit of our Bolt EV - max 230 but 88% charge is about 203 miles. With Ohio's added registration fee (for road usage) - insurance is a wash, it cost me 15.5 cents per KW at home. My 240v charger which cost me $300 - I installed - charges 30 miles each hour. I get over 4.1 miles per KW - about 12.5 cents per mile. No oil changes and no gas stations. A car getting about 30 miles per gallon is about 28 cents per mile canceling out near equal items.

We drive it a lot - it excels on short trips compared to firing up an ICE. Yep I still have an XT6 Cad and a Duramax truck. I will keep the 2500HD but someday I would like to get a Lyriq only for a car.

Using commercial charging stations puts the cost a little less than gas. The chargers around here are 35 cents per KW but are a hassle.

To store commercial solar power, I say charge during the daylight if you can and the Tesla is an ugly truck. I am on a coop and electricity is the same rate all the day.

Forget oil, gas, solar, wind, or natural gas for the electric, I save money and that is what will sell anything.

Re: Tesla vs Chevrolet

They swapped reliance on foreign oil for reliance on foreign resources of minerals from other countries.
An EV battery contains various critical minerals, including copper, nickel, and lithium, the large majority of which the United States imports from countries such as China, Brazil, Chile, Australia, and South Africa.

What really gets my goat is that the vouchers, rebates, tax credits, and sales tax exemptions are paid for with MY tax dollars.

Musk gets the full price for his crap and Uncle Sam uses my money to make up the difference for all the sales incentives. GM and ford would love such a deal. Well, at least for real cars. I guess they're selling EVs as well.

Where I live EV owners show proof of ownership and charge their EV during the night at nearly 1/2 daytime rates.

Some people think an EV is going to save the world. They think they're going GREEN.
85% of the electricity coming out those wall sockets comes flom fossil fuels. More EVs simply means more fossil fuel.

Re: Tesla vs Chevrolet

According to the specialists, a Tesla has more American-made parts than any other.
Only one American automaker made it into the list of the top 10 most American-made cars, as compiled by Cars.com.\

It wasn’t Stellantis (parent of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram), either;
Cars.com researchers examined 338 cars to rank the top 100 on “five criteria: assembly location, parts content, engine origin, transmission origin, and U.S. manufacturing workforce.”

An important caveat: for parts content, Cars.com counts Canada as part of the U.S.
The Top Ten, in order:

Tesla Model Y
Tesla Model 3
Tesla Model X
Tesla Model S
Honda Passport
Volkswagen ID.4
Honda Odyssey
Acura MDX
Honda Ridgeline
Acura RDX

Several new large deposits of lithium have been discovered in the US. Other cars also have copper and steel.

85% of the electricity coming out those wall sockets comes from fossil fuels.

This is true. However, the boilers are typically 85% efficient the very best automotive engine is 40% efficient and the average is closer to 20%. This leaves a lot of room for the efficiencies of electricity to shine. One thing the electrics can do is, during regen, put electrons back into the tank. No other vehicle type can do this.

I get the part about tax dollars going to EV. IMHO, that was a kickstart, and the rebates will not last long.
I have seven cars and only one is an EV.

85% efficiency don’t mean jack when so many idiots are doing everything they can to get rid of coal/gas fired plants and gas turbines in favor of all the greenie crap that doesn’t work worth a damn without a plant to push the power thru the lines…. I find it hilarious that they were all about banning all coal/gas/nuke plants in favor all carbon free energy, they shut a large number of plants down in favor of green energy only to realize that it won’t work so now nuclear and gas is the answer again, even though they are very quiet at admitting it. I work in a gas fired plant and look after a few gas turbines in case that wasn’t obvious.

I don’t hate Elon, but I have no desire to buy Tesla’s or anyone else’s electric vehicles. This is the only style Tesla I can get behind… https://m.youtube.com/shorts/fZW7kcm5A0o

Personally, I wouldn't own one of those if they were giving them away free. Or any other EV.
