wiper motor help.

So I need some input on a new wiper motor and need info on the 3 types they list. I have a 68 and it lists: 1 speed 2 terminals, 2 speed 3 terminals, and then 2 speed 4 terminals that I can use. I plain on putting in a new motor and pump, but don't really no what I'm looking at. Any help from you guys is great. The truck is getting redone from ground up, the wiring kit is a american autowire kit. Thanks for your time.

The switch and motor have to match.. The 4th terminal is for the washer pump.. The wiper switch button is depressed to activate the pump. Voltage is fed to the motor when the ignition is on. The switch provides ground path(s) for speed control and washer function.

Unless you are going for the utmost correct factory appearance and function, I would not recommend going with the original style washer pump. They were not very good. I use a on demand modern style pump. A lot of guys mount them near the washer reservoir. I mounted mine under the dash, so that factory appearance was retained.

You would need the 2 speed 3 terminal motor. The 2 speed 4 terminal motor would be for the earlier trucks. (before '67) You can use the 4 terminal on the later trucks but you have to make sure to plug the connectors into the correct terminals.

Check out this thread for information on wiper motors.

Re: wiper motor help.

I just went through a few partial days of frustration with the motor pump and switch. If you end up with the rectangular motor and associated pump I can assist. It's a simple system but most of the help treads ans schematics had errors making the journey a bit of a challenge. Some very key points. As stated above, the motor and pump positive leads are always hot when key is in run position. The switch connects 2 separate pins on motor and 1 pin on the pump. A ground strap around one of the vibration isolation pads is also required for the motor to find home poition. The color schematics on this site did not match my harness. 50 years and someone messed with the leads. I also had a 6 month old switch fail. Things got confusing till I pulled the connectors apart and traced for myself. Last point is the pump. The pump solinode is not polarity sensitive for the pump so nonissue on lead connection on the pump.

Except that I think the connector is keyed and is supposed to be plugged in a certain way. That is why there are notches in the body of the connector, for the key tabs on the brass spades to slide into. I won't say that it is impossible to plug it in the opposite way because I haven't tried it.

Re: wiper motor help.

I used an 88-93 S10 washer pump/tank & pump - very happy with it. No mess under the dash.

Correct statement, except the spades on the new washer pump was not keyed and allowed the wider of the two 2 pin plugs to be plugged in either way. That was concerning to me. I bench tested the pump and verified the pump solinode (I wrote relay in previous post and will fix)sent the plunger the same direction when connected either way.
The wiper motor is keyed and the narrow (pins closer together compared to washer plug) is pole sensitive and must be correctly plugged in. The +12 volt switched power is applied to the right hand pin on a 3 pin wiper motor.
