Just remember slow and steady wins the race.
Got it done without the basin wrench I have but can't find when needed. Hadn't used it in over 25 years. The faucet is working well and my Wife loves it.

That is a pretty year model, I also think 66-67 Novas have a nice body style.
What did I do today you ask?
While everybody is remodeling their homes or building decks or something, I cut up an old radiator hose to use as pads for my step ladder feet.
I would stand on the ladder to lean over to look down the carburetor venturies and the dang thing would slide out from under my feet, Impaling my fat gut on the hood latch and ruining my day.
I consider that time well spent today.

lets see what didn't I do to the truck..... I inverted my John Deere mowing tractor's deck to remove the blades and sharpened them, and also scraped out a season's worth of mud and packed lawn on 2/3rds of the deck, oh yeah to a nap, haha

LOL, I just did the same thing a couple days ago, in addition to changing the oil, and also changing the hydraulic fluid and filter.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I always go over the yard before I begin the mowing season. So I spent a couple hours in the yard picking up debri that has accumulated over the winter months, especially with all the winds we've had lately. In particular is our black gum tree that is a "self pruner" it seems. I pick up small limbs every week before I can mow. It's a huge old tree and as limbs die they fall. It doesn't produce gum balls, just small limbs. But when leaf'd out it has a pretty shape. And behind it there are the line of pine trees on the property line of our neighbor. They're his and he doesn't care for them. He did come out with a big vaccum behind his john deere mower AFTER I spent all that time picking up mine. Pine cones and pine needles blanket the ground. When he gets done they are piled up like a row of VWs.

Heading out to lift those lids and clean off the septic filter. We do it twice a year. No digging cuz I was smart and put risers on last year. Best thing I've done to that system. Once done, I'm firing up the bike and get in a couple of hours of saddle time.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

working on the 32 project,i have both rear quarters and wheel wells done, pretty happy with how the rear fenders fit as i have no plans to install that ugly old fender welt as would have done originally.i 'm working on 3 places on the back of the car where there are 3 poorly made and installed patches?i think 2 were for some sort of custom tail lights sometime in the old girls past but no idea what the 3rd patch up high on the drivers side would have been?no matter,we'll fix it.i will be working on installing front fenders next, drilling and tapping all the holes required, then tackling the rotten wood in the roof and around the rear window before building the engine and assembling the frame and suspension.like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Had to fix one of the anti vibration mounts on the Dolmar 7910 . The way they did was to use special large thread screws into the plastic housing . It pulled out and a new gas tank handle housing is $130 . My fix was to drill out the hole and heat up a coupler and draw it into the plastic worked out pretty well . The screw goes in from the opposite side so it can’t pull out .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Started yesterday, I was going to replace the faucet on the outside of the back of the house. I wish I did not mess with it . The faucet was rusted inside and did not leave many threads on the pipe (3/4" galvanized) coming out of the skirting . When I came back from Ace Hardware with a new pipe and started to replace it things snowballed . More of the plumbing under the Mobile home was also rusted and started leaking. We had no water until after 2 o'clock this afternoon. When I was done there were eleven new pieces replaced. It should outlive me. The worst part was the fact I had to lay on my belly and work in a ground clearance of 8-9 inches.

This is why I only use copper for new work, if at all possible. I had a galvanized supply line to the kitchen on my previous house burst. Every joint I took apart crumbled. I finally got to a point where I used a hacksaw on the female part of an elbow so that I could unscrew the pipe. Put in a dielectric coupler and replaced the downstream line with copper. Easy-peasy. Still took the better part of a day, laying under the house.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Sorry to read about your snowball, but that is quite typical of any project on older "stuff", plumbing, cars, electrical, etc. I do all my own plumbing too, but when something below the main floor of the house needs repair, I'm in a heated/cooled basement working, usually standing on a ladder...
Code up here has specified copper for many years and I had a copper waterline in the basement of our previous home corrode thru from the inside. Kind of an emergency when I discovered the pinhole spray on a line I had to shut down the whole house to repair. I can't solder to save my soul, so it was a $300 charge to get a plumber out after hours. He used crimp connectors with a really expensive tool and that got me looking into that method of connecting.
I have been using SharkBite, style, push on copper fasteners for years now to connect copper. Parts are spendy but not near as high as paying a plumber and NO soldering...

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

.

Snowball. I'm familiar. Currently doing something similar with my very ancient HVAC system. After sitting for a few years doing nothing, I got it yesterday to the point I could turn it on and see what it would do. That is, replaced the fan blade, tested the fan motor, put in a new cap. Turned it on and found it was sending cool air to the vents, the high line was warm and the low line was cool to the touch. Ambient at that time was 80F.

This morning, I had an HVAC guy show up and put the gauges on and we get 35L 130H with ambient temps at 67F and rainy. I paid for 2 lbs of R22 equivalent (40?c) at 125/per and the thing is freezing me out of the house. Once the 2 lbs were in we got 70L, 170H.

Question is, where did the missing refrigerant go? The system was in use every summer for the past 18 years with no issues. Then 2 years ago the fan blade got damaged and it was shutdown until now. It was installed in 1988 time frame.

Time will tell soon enough I guess. I'm hoping if there's a leak, it's a really slow one that will allow me to continue for a few more seasons.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

The leak doesn't have to be at the outside unit. It can be along the lines running into the house and in the inside unit. I had a slow leak in my home unit for years and none of the techs were interested in looking for it, just gas it up and on to the next call. I finally opened up the inside unit to find the A coil was the source.
Is R22 $125 per lb now?

I have a 30 lb tank of it I need to sell. I bought it just before my old unit was replaced.

.

Time will answer my leak questions. Hopefully, it takes a long, long time to leak down enough to make a difference in performance.

As for the R22 cost, well he didn't charge it with R22, he put in something else that is compatible (according to him). The refrigerant is 407c and he charged me $125/gal installed. I'm sure he's making money on that, probably at a decent rate too like maybe 30 to 40%.

I ran across 6 R-12 cans at a swap meet recently and they wanted 38/ea. 30lbs of R22 should be worth some coin.

In this link, 5 lbs of R22 is priced at 239
https://abilityrefrigerants.com/prod...igerant-5-lbs/

Here's 10 lbs of R22 priced at 315
https://shop.chillercity.com/products/r-22

These could be web pages that simply haven't been taken down since the Jan 1, 2025 ban on R22 use in the US and therefore representing prices you may have paid for your cylinder. Here's one craigslist listing for a 30lb cylinder listed at 800 bucks
https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/fo...829805906.html

Here's 15 lbs for 250
https://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/fo...834579163.html

Not sure what any of that means for the R22 market.
