Re: Mar-k products, bought any lately?

Lots of times the folks that started those businesses, get old and have no one interested in cont8inuing the business.. Its always tuff for small businesses especially in specialized markets

A lot of these companies are being bought out by Private Equity Groups. They scrape all of the money off the top and do exactly what jumpsoffrock said, start selling lower quality parts and raising the prices. Plus they fire all of the existing employees and hire cheaper people with no knowledge about the business, If they can make it look like the business is making a good profit they sell it to some unsuspecting individuals for a profit. If not they just let it go bankrupt. That is what happened to Woodall Industries and Holley, and many others.

If you get a chance do some reading on Private Equity Groups They are even buying up medical and dental businesses now....

Re: Mar-k products, bought any lately?

I had some Mar-K molding on order through Speedway Motors for my C10. I called the other day and asked about shipping and told the lady Google was showing them being out of business. They contacted me yesterday and stated they could not get in touch with their internal contact at Mar-K and refunded my money stating they were sure Mar-K was out of business.

Poor business ruins good companies every time.

We have a '66 F100 build in our shop, the owner had Fatman swap the original frame from I-beams to M2 front suspension and 4 link in the rear. They welded the front crossmember in 2.5-3" too far forward, which wasn't caught until the body was back on the frame and the wheels were obviously off center in the fender openings. They wouldn't make it right.

I friend of mine does restoration. He was doing an old T-bird and bought a FatMan frame.
Nearly everything on it was welded out of place or just plain wrong.

Re: Mar-k products, bought any lately?

I don't know who all makes the side molding for my 68 longbed. So I pulled the trigger today on it through Summit Racing. I was hoping to wait till the paint was finished but didn't want to miss out on being able to get it.

I bought some molding from Summit and all the brands are just rebadged Corvex, which is so thin, their own clips dent the molding.

I bought some Counterpart moldings off H & H last week and got them yesterday. I am impressed with the lower door moldings. These are almost as thick as the originals. The moldings that go over the rear wheel arch are pretty thin. They do not seem to be the same quality as the door moldings. I think half these places buy and rebadge everything.

Sorry to hear that. I've always had good luck with Counterparts stuff. My truck has had a Counterparts window regulator for 15-20 years, and it still works like new.

As for H&H, they are quality people. Years ago, Herman (the owner) told me he decided to no longer stock a high volume part because there were no good suppliers. He missed out on sales, but didn't have to worry about unhappy customers. I think the part was a window regulator for 55-57 Chevy cars, but I've slept since then.

No issues with H&H. The price was good, they were in stock, and shipped out the same day. I will definitely buy from them again.

The moldings were all labeled CP. I bought some Auto Metal Direct molding from Summit a few months ago. The box inside the Summit box said Auto Metal Direct, but opening the package and the actual pieces said Corvex. These were grill molding for a 68 C10.

I wonder if some one will buy up the tooling and continue to make the side moldings?
